I'm amazed nobody has mentioned this single thus far, but "Gold" is just about the worst single he has released. Far too mainstream, pop-by-numbers for me  ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Wow, you sure you're a Prince fan? I thought not loving the actual Purple Rain song alone was impossible. Here's my list. Delirious-Its beat annoys me Thieves in the Temple-Not terrible, just boring Alphabet St.-Just gets on my nerves a bit Gett Off-It has this hip hop influence in its sound that feels dated to me The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

And I'll take it a step further, He aired the song live on the Arsenio Hall show before the single came out. I totally dug this live version of the tune and was hyped for it to be released! It was so damn griddy, fast and funky compared to the poofty single and video.. He should have just released that performance to video straight away... (Hanging around too many Brits lately with my terms I think..) Anyway, I always hated the album version and cringe when I hear it.. My take, don't hate. Purple Rain is the worst of all Prince's "major" songs, longwinded, sentimental, wave-yo-hands-in-the-air-preferably-with-a-lighter-in-it, nonsense.
Cream is a nice T-Rex tribute, that simple really. Graffiti Bridge wasn't released as a single was it? It is, however, by far and away the worst song Prince has ever recorded. It makes me cringe just to think of the half-assed, happy-clappy BS.  | |
