Who agrees though!? Man, I remember in the 80's listening to 'Let's Pretend We're Married' when sings' I sincerely want to F**K the taste out of your mouth, can u relate?' and all my friends were freaking out! My god it was SEX in music... the energy, the funk, was unbelievable...and then the track turns into DMSR WOW!...common...I am sorry Prince, it ain't just about the music...it is also about the lyrics and how evocative they were and still are, on those records... Change the lyrics and u kill the original memories and emotions and pure sexual appeal of that tracks... DON'T change the lyrics to make them religion friendly... Get nasty again!

To be honest, it doesn't bother me either way whether Prince swears or not. His dirty mind is cool, but so are his God-fearing ways.

If the music is good, then it doesn't matter.

Don't forget, Parade isn't exactly full of filth (just a little saucy, perhaps), likewise, ATWIAD, Sign O The Times (an F-word or two here and there) and TRC.

Let's just hope that he finds something, anything that drives him enough to make some kick-ass music!

It's not about the cursing/swearing at all! It is about the freedom...SEX-SWEARING-LEG WARMERS & HIGH HEELS...it don't matter...just don't restrict yourself with religion and it's 'do's and don'ts' or it will 'undo' you. hmm

Sorry, that arguement is rubbish... I am all for change...Change is what makes the world go around...My point is: SELF CENSORSHIP. Don't do it. (especially removing curse words for a religious reason)...

Don't regret anything you have done in your past. Embrace it. BE proud...

And please...don't feel sorry for me. No need, I am happy, in touch with the past and the NOW...The Future is the only unknown.

That`s the way HE feels about it. He doesnt wanna curse anymore because he believes he has more to say than that. He has matured, maybe you have not. You don`t have to curse in order to play great Funk. You don`t hear James Brown or Maceo Parker curse either, and they play some serious funk. If that`s what Prince wants, accept it. Nobody forces you to listen to his new music. If you wanna stick to the past, then there is enough old music for you to feel nostalgic.

Don't regret anything you have done in your past. Embrace it. BE proud...

He is proud of the music he has made in the past, he has just shown that. But why should he be proud of saying "motherfucker" one too many times? Only an idiot would be proud of that.

And please...don't feel sorry for me. No need, I am happy, in touch with the past and the NOW...The Future is the only unknown.

And Prince decides what he will be like in the future. You can join him on his path or leave him alone. It`s up to you. But calling orders on how he should talk an act is pretty lame, in my opinion.

Sorry, disagree again...you are missing my point...I don't care about the cursing...what I have a problem with is when he revisits these old tracks and changes them or has a problem with them. I agree you don't need to curse to play great funk, but the raw energy and sexual expression that Prince was giving in his music in most cases in the early days was driven by sex and his sexual libido & his love for God. God gave us libidos for a reason, my friend. Curse words exist for reason, my friend. I think infact his expression of the relationship between sex and god was part of the reason he was so provocative and exciting...It was his attitude...briefs on stage...the sexual expression, the whole thing was an expression of himself that was UNCENSORED & THAT was the Prince that influenced the music scene in a major way. Prince was real, can u relate?

However, if that is what Prince wants for now and the future with his new music, then I accept that completely no problem, I just have a problem with him trying to change the past...I certainly don't want to stick to the past, I just want to see it preserved in the spirit that it was originally conceived & expressed. Ok? Please understand my point, is not just about freespeech and cursing, it isn't. My point is about what was behind the music back then, is what got him to where he is now and should be respected without censorship. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it.

Don't regret anything you have done in your past. Embrace it. BE proud...

I don't have a problem with the word motherfucker, that word has it's place in society. Get over it.

Join him in his path?!! What is he Jesus now? Hey I just like the music and his music reflects my self expression and I connected with his music for that reason. As it turns out, I believe in God too... here is a little quote from Prince that I think sums up the way Prince's lyrics reflected his attitude:

"Whatever U heard about me is true
I change the rules and do what I wanna do
I'm in love with God, he's the only way
'Cuz U and I know we gotta die some day
If U think I'm crazy, you're probably right
But I'm gonna have fun every motherfuckin' night
If U like 2 fight, you're a double-drag fool
I'm goin' 2 another life, how 'bout U?"

I thought you knew. "Maturity" means you can't use foul language anymore. "Maturity" means you have to conform and follow the paths laid down by others (religion-the biggest joke on earth).

I'd rather choose my own path and be called immature.

I, too, think he should go back to being interesting, instead of stale and boring for the sake of being "mature".

To a real musician, songs are like children. They grow. And they reflect your own state of mind. They are a part of you. When the true artist changes, so will his songs. I think that`s great. Obviously Prince doesn`t have a problem with his old songs, or he wouldn`t play them. He just adjusts them to the person that he is today. I find that honest and very sincere.

I agree you don't need to curse to play great funk, but the raw energy and sexual expression that Prince was giving in his music in most cases in the early days was driven by sex and his sexual libido & his love for God. Prince was real, can u relate?

I agree. But he has changed his view of things. Back then, he experimented. His own body and mind the subject of his experments. It seems that now he has found his way, he knows what he wants to be, he is aware of himself, he is more mature than ever. It might not be the style you like, but it`s definetely more real. Today, Prince is as real as he can get. He is not hiding behind his Spooky Electrics, Camilles, Alexander Neverminds and symbols. He is just Prince. I have never seen him so chill, so natural, so relaxed. And you know what? From what I hear from people who are close to him, he is a very nice guy now. Before, he was one angry, confused and frustrated young man who couldnt stand what he saw when he looked in the mirror.

However, if that is what Prince wants for now and the future with his new music, then I accept that completely no problem, I just have a problem with him trying to change the past...I certainly don't want to stick to the past, I just want to see it preserved in the spirit that it was originally conceived & expressed.

What is THE PAST? Something you can glue in a photo album, something that remains the same for all eternity? The songs he has recorded in the past are still part of his vibrant self, they LIVE. They breathe. And they change. Not the ones forever pressed in your vinly copy at home. But those that live in his head. It`s his right to change them to his like, and its being very damn real if he adjusts them to his current state of mind.
If would be pretty fake if he preached against curse words and then said "I wanna fuck the taste outta your mouth" on stage, right?

Ok? Please understand my point, is not just about freespeech and cursing, it isn't. My point is about what was behind the music back then, is what got him to where he is now and should be respected without censorship. That is my opinion and I am entitled to it.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion .. lol.. but so is he. And the songs are HIS. He OWNS them, even if they are legally a possession of WB. What he does is not censorship. If somebody else -- a record label for example -- tells him how to play his songs, now that would be censorship. But he is a free man. And his songs are free, too, as long as they are part of him.

I don't have a problem with the word motherfucker, that word has it's place in society. Get over it.

I dont have a problem with the word either. But HE has a problem with it. Either you respect that and accept it, or you will remain frustrated and start threads like this one.

Join him in his path?!! What is he Jesus now? Hey I just like the music and his music reflects my self expression and I connected with his music for that reason. As it turns out, I believe in God too...

No .. lol... Prince is an ordinary musician. But if his music and lyrics mean so much to you, than it`s obvious that this man plays an important role in your life. He has an influence on you. That`s why I said, either be happy with him, join his path, or move on. But dont ask him to adjust his spirituality, his musical and verbal style to your taste and need.

I heard that for the first time about 20 years ago. And Prince perceived these lyrics even longer ago. They sound like a very young, angry but yet intelligent and soulful kid. But not like a 45-years-old man with the maturity that he should have gained after the type of life he has lived. Prince is not the person he was 20 years ago. Not at all. Unfortunately, many people can`t accept that.

You know what...Prince still has a 'Dirty mind' I bet. Just ask Mani. He just doesn't express those thoughts lyrically anymore. Some of those lyrics really helped me out when I was younger evillol I admit I do miss them, yet that's what CD's are for. If you miss it...BUMP IT!

Where did I say that maturity equals religious obsession? However, if religion helps Prince to be a spiritually calm and mature person... then why not? You may find YOUR way towards spiritual maturity, let him his. He didn`t become a worse person since he has joined the JWs, and he didn`t make worse music. In fact, he makes BETTER music (unless you really like Chaos and Disorder as well as Rave).

You know what, good valid points. I accept that.

I guess we aren't all just frozen in our current states though. Our past selves are still part of us now. Lucky for us, music can bring back a feeling, an emotion that we felt back when we were kids and right through to now. I love being a developed person that can relate to someone my age and just as easily someone as an angry teenager or younger. Cause I was there. But you know, I can't tell you how it makes me cringe when he played The Christ and changed the lyrics of the Cross. It undid some of what the original impact was on me. I still find it hard to know how to process that stuff.

Anyway, it is cool that you say he is happy and content with the now, i just don't think it would do him any harm to perhaps be more in touch with that stuff. Interesting points though! Thx
