3 Reasons The Grammy Performance Was Perfect As hardcore fans, most of us can agree to some level, that the Grammy medley was be no means ground-breaking, yet the man himself was as dynamic and musically sound as we have come to count on, (a novel thing in the minds of the MTV generation).
Here are three reasons that, for better or worse, made it the right performance, given the situation... 1) He played songs people know - I know this is all relative given the wide age range involved, but he stuck to what the greatest number of people could resonate with. (As much as I respect his recent work, I was cringing at the idea that he would play something virtually unknown or experimental, causing instant audience chill). The songs he played were a reminder of what pop music can be. 2) He didn't get to speak - Somehow, Prince always manages to say something inexplicable; whether about the business, religion, awards, etc., that makes you go, "D'oh!"... As sincere, funny, and smart as Prince is, often this does not come across when he speaks publically. It was so nice to see him let his music do the talking... 3)He looked as cool and classy as he is - How I was dreading a shiny, blue outfit like we saw on the Rave Concert film, or some of the NPS stuff. Prince looked like a well-aged wine! (It's funny how dignified he comes across now compared with so many in the music spotlight, yet as funky and edgey as ever). All in all, I think it was safe, smart, and just what he needed to whet the appetites of the music industry... What do y'all think?

Oh man, if he woulda come out in an NPG jersey and one of those dumb bowler hats, I woulda spat food at the television.

Of all the crap Prince has worn you think the jersey and the bowler hat were the worst? "New Power slide...."

They were up there. The jersey/bowler look was very "I give up".
