My name is Prince

...and i am funky.

Does anybody actually still listen to this?

I can't imagine anybody whacks this one on and gets carried away with the vibe. Is there anybody that is still singing along to this one?

If so...why?

Yes, I sure do and I'm not ashamed to admit it either! Why you ask? Because the song has an amazing funky vibe and it kicks ass!

Ubiquity

Not for me either. That song represents a very confused era. I still can`t believe that Prince did deliver this useless song.

It's a fun tongue in cheek tune.

I love this song. It's cheesy and schlocky, but that just adds to the fun. I love the energy of it, I love the way P does that shouty pissed-off rap. I think it's stupid as hell, but it's not like I'm expecting Brian Eno or OK Computer when I throw on the damn symbol album, sheesh.

Why not? His name is Prince and he is still funky. Oh, and I still like the song. Why not?

I couldn't find a forum to put this in: I was cycling tonight and a bat pood on my shirt. It was yellow. I've never been pood on by a bat before.

Used to really love the tune; still like it a fair bit, and play it when the prince CD is in.

Certainly don't play the single anymore. Can't even remember what the other tracks on the single were...

If I remember correctly there's a fairly funky remix of Sexy M.F. on there. hmmm

There maxi single had a few mixes of MNIP, including one extended version. I quite liked them, they were quite heavy on the bass. The standard single had 2 Whom It May Concern, kind of a b-side with samples of all the prince album tracks (and the 'thunk' sound to tell us how to pronounce the album name smile There was a remix or two of Sexy MF on the singles.

Oh yeah, 2 whom it may concern! Ta.

I thought that was quite cool at the time.

The song was quite special to me, because I first got into Prince with Diamonds & Pearls, so 2 Whom It May Concern, which had it's own film clip and was shown on TV before the album came out, was the first new Prince I heard since becoming a fan (of course I had most of his back catalogue by then..). It's a cool tune too, especially what you quoted.

I like it! I would've LOVED it if Tony M. weren't rapping on it. The Original Mix Edit is very funky. biggrin

The video sucks, though, with the sodding Game Boyz kicking someone in an alley. Like, wow, that's really cool. rolleyes

Is the Original Mix Edit the extended version? Or is it also a different (sound) mix to the album version?

It's the un-edited album version (i.e. it's longer). biggrin

nahh, one of his weaker tracks. First time I heard and saw the song I got the same feeling as Batdance. Wow, cool, and awesome. Feeling did not last long, and both songs are hokey and outdated. A sarcastic thanks to Bart Simpson for doing My Name Is Bart. Recognition for weak Prince songs embarrasses me, as there is an embarassment of riches under Prince's well-known songs.

I agree, the weakest single he ever released in my opinion. it hit though if you remember.

I still like this track - even though the lyrics and vibe etc are very dated/silly.
It still quite a hardhitting bombastic type of track though, and I still dig it.

I remember I played this song in my car with a new girlfriend thinking I was all bad ass and all she could do upon hearing the chorus was laugh. That was the last time I played that song...that was 1998.

I'm listening to it right now. This song is still the bomb. I always find myself dancing to it so that's always a sign that I like a song. Too bad this song wasn't a bigger hit.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Raahhh! I think this is a top dance floor filler.

you gotta take it with a pinch of salt... It aint all

serious. Its a fast paced electro pop/hip hoppy type of

track that's just mad get down to when you're slushed!...

esp. with the self indulgent screams of the easy lyrics!,

it's all fun!! (until Tony starts busting his stuff, boy you need the hymn sheet to follow he's flow! but it's

all good). I love that 'threatening' line to all mans when he shouts... "...TIL' I GET YOUR DAUGHTER, I WONT LEAVE THIS TOWN! AAAWWW!! MY NAME IS PRINCE!"

"..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."
