Prnce always changes guitars and he probably didnt want to throw the custom symbol axe on the floor like he did the Telecaster

he uses different guitars for different songs. he uses habibi for his heavy rock stuff and the little fills he was playing during purple rain had a tone that was more suitable for that guitar. during lets go crazy, he was doing more rhthym stuff. he uses the telecaster for his rhthym and funky stuff.
mostly. | |

Prince probably wanted to have the guitars that could meet his tonal demands for differing songs. The symbol is closer to his Cloud guitars (though, sadly, not close enough) and better deliver a Purple Rain/Gold sound than the cheap Telecaster knockoff he used for Let's Go Crazy.
I'm thinking it may have even extended to amp/patch setups respective to the two guitars. The tonal differences on the opening and closing songs were pretty significant to me. It may have just been easier for Prince's techs to hand him the Tele for Let's Go Crazy. I just wish he'd stop throwing his axes. A tech may have caught the Tele on Sunday, but that bass in the Rave clip hit the stage. Durn rock stars!!!

The time-slave relay got bent out of shape on the 1st guitar and Prince knew that the interstitchal circuit in the other guitar could cover for this crisis.
He was lucky. It could have been a disaster. I've reversed the polarity of the neutron flow... Now to find a way to exterminate Melody Cool and Rosie Gaines...

Yeah I'm saying.
When he through the tele I was like not the tele, never thought a tech may have been there to catch it. I know he through the white symbol up in the air and let it hit the stage and the long part of the sybol broke off and had to be glued back in one piece. I wonder how many he has broken *********************************************
I'll believe it when I see it

Funny. I always assumed that when Prince broke a guitar that he simply bought a new one. I mean, I picture him having dozen's of guitars. "New Power slide...."

Breaking guitars is not gonna make prince out of money
He can break whatever he wants, but some guitars he loves he probably doesn't want thrown. I'm sure he has lots of telecasters that look the same, and will play hard on lots of them, but the sentimental ones he may not break. Sometimes u have to sacrifice in order to entertain. But ya know, guitars are a lot harder and sturdy than u think.

I remember reading a Wendy & Lisa interview a looong time ago before the bitterness, that Prince got so emotional during his last ever concert with the Revolution that he smashed up his guitar at the end of the Purple Rain...doubt he's done that since - Anyone else remember reading that??

Man, during the "slave" days he threw his guitars as if they were nothing (usually after "Peach")... You should've seen what he did with a black guitar at the second Paradiso gig in Holland during the "The Ultimate Live Experience Tour", the next day he played the same guitar, all taped up, at the Belgian gig ... That was pretty hilarious back then... Or at a 1994 House Of Blues gig, he played that electric blue cloud then threw it on the floor and gave a good firm kick after with the heel of his boot... Or more recently at the Nighttown gig in Holland where he threw the thing in the air and left it squeeling on the stage... Throwing guitars is not new for him, but everytime he throws a Hohner there always someone there to catch it... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

mostly. Perhaps but I have seen him rip on the Telecaster. I am pretty sure he did a kick ass versions of Calhoun Square and Beautiful Strange on it at the last Celebration.

Yeah, I always thought he probably keeps the original important versions of his guitar back in the recording studio, and just takes copies on tour that can be damaged and replaced with another - I mean, he can afford it. It is still pretty dramatic when he throws a guitar down, even at the grammies, I'm sure he does it for effect as his mood takes him - but he's not stupid enough to damage a rare guitar.

Yeah, Wendy said he had never done that before. I've never heard of him doing it since. I heard that since it was the last concert with the Revolution, he wanted it to be the last time anyone ever played that guitar again.
