FUCK U NAYSAYERS!!! What's cooler than Ice Cold? Well here is a hint: It's freezerburn compared to cool. So there you go. The "impossible" just happened. Prince is mainstream front page news again just like that. And at the same time he had his most daring album yet nominated for a grammy.
So I don't wanna ever hear again that Prince is dead, he isn't relevant, he sold out, any of it.He proved the all the naysayers wrong. He is in the spotlight again-and made it look easy. He dusted off 20 yr old songs and stole the show from the hottest acts going. I don't care if Ms. Destiny's Child was there.A new batch of curious fans have been born. He did what all the negative Prince fans said would never happen. Yep, three songs from "Purple Rain" - he knows what people want-then he gives them what they need. If you are gonna bitch about the "hits" he played, then buy the ONA:Live Box Set and enjoy him NOT playing the hits. Me? I am just gonna party like it's 2004. Bring on the new album, DVD's, hall of fame, etc. What's cooler than Ice Cold? Well here is a hint: It's freezerburn compared to cool. "New Power slide...."

I honestly don't get all this concern with revelance and the like. Last I checked, Prince didn't have a song or album on the charts.
"Mainstream front page news"? Any front page I've seen with Prince on it had a woman glued to his hip with the headline "Beyonce Tops Grammys". It's not like he reinvented himself last night. And who cares, really? Just give us the next album and he'll be back.

All that doesnt mean shit. While Prince`s little Grammy performance obviously seemed to have been the "event of the year" in the lives of a many people on this site, to the general audience it will mean little or nothing by today. It was an ok-tv-appearnce, nothing outstanding, no special skills, no special selection of songs. Absolute average. You are just getting a hard-on because the man you worship was on mainstream tv for a minute. But it really doesnt mean shit. Prince will remain out of the mainstream, and you know what? I love him for it. And I am no "naysayer". I believe Prince is currently at another peak of his creativity. He has reached musical and spiritual maturity and is finally playing the funk that I wanted to hear from him in a looong time. But this Grammy`s performance simply didnt do justice. It was like James Brown playing a Vegas show. It was like an oldies act. It sucked. So chill and get your head out of your ass.

Career-wise,I think the Grammy performance was the smartest thing Prince has done in years.Like skywalker pointed out,Prince played OLD songs and still managed to steal the show from the "hottest" acts in the business. He had to get up there and show 'em how it's done.It was a fun, lively and exciting performance and it baffles me why so many people on this site think otherwise.

When it comes down to it, it`s a matter of taste. I personally believe that Prince would have surprised a lot more people, if he had played some exciting new stuff to show that he is far from being an oldies act. But there is one thing that can`t be argued: This performance will not lift Prince`s career to new mainstream heights. He might sell a few Purple Rain CDs in the next few days, but that`s it. This wasn`t a breakthrough, as some fams claim. Break through what? To the fucked up, highly commercialised, talent-less music world of today? What for? Prince still makes great music. His live shows are better than ever. The mainstream would only affect him in a negative way. It would make him sound like "Rave" all over again.

So instead of watching the shows you paid to see, you were taking statistics of the age groups in the audience? Since these audiences are such a large number, you spent the night asking each person how old they were? I didn't think so. I've reversed the polarity of the neutron flow...
