Also, Prince slightly messed up a few times and GASP had a couple of pitch problems during PR.

I'm disappointed. He should have had the stage all to himself. They should have announced him and announced that he was performing to commerorate Purple Rain's 20th anniversary.
And NOBODY should be allowed to sing Purple Rain besides Prince!! NOBODY!! NOBODY!! I give the performance a 7 out of 10. And did you hear Beyonce say "Sing it with me Prince." during Baby I'm A Star??? What fucking nerve!! [This message was edited Sun Feb 8 17:14:07 PST 2004 by doeineffect]

He should have been able to perform on his own merits and not have to depend on Beyonce to get him over. Oh, well. At least he got on TV.

Us fans are pretty hard markers i think.
My wife (who is just a casual fan) was watching it at home whilst taping it for me and thought it was great although she said there appeared to be some minor technical problems with the sound. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

you people entertain me like no other. why are you people even here? why did you watch him perform? did you think he was gonna show up with wendy and lisa and turn the clock back 20 years? if thats the case, turn the tv off, lock your doors, and listen to "parade" over and over again until you die. the time has passed. either move on, or get the fuck out of the way.
the man can't win. first off, do you think he was forced to have beyonce up there? hell no. that man doesn't do anything anyone tells him to do. saying "he wouldn't have been allowed anywhere near the stage without beyonce" is fucking stupid. what songs did they play? did i hear beyonce sing a single note of one of her songs? hell no. beyonce singing "sing it with me prince" was not nerve. its called showmanship. it may not make sense, but people say it, and things similar to it, on stage all the time. did prince use beyonce? hell yes. will it make things better for everyone involved in the long run? too early to say, but i'd honestly say it was a step in the right direction. it wasn't amazing. it was a start. where the little man goes from here is up to him. now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.

I don't post too often but damm, prince is so over. If he had come out w/ musicology alright. but, purple rain? from a guy who repeatedly said on his last tour, if u have come to get ur purple rain on, ur in the wrong house? I know that it is the anniversary of the movie but, if prince wanted to seriously be seen as a true contempory artist in 2004, playing a greatest hits melody with Beyonce is not the way to do it.
It was a good performance, and not great, Beyonce was all over the place, P was tight considering he usually chokes on tv(insert any leno performance here). But i seriously wanted him to perform something new, at least "everywhere" w/ Beyonce and a choir would have been a good choice in these troubled times...? no one except prince fans have heard rainbow children anyway. Well, I guess if he is lucky a few younguns will pick up his older stuff cuz they havent heard good songs in a while and will b intrigued, but damm, either he should perform new material or retire to the greatest hits act. Havent u ever felt like p has no faith in his new material? everytime he gets on tv, he always falls back to his hits. I remember the party on mtv or vh1? for emancipation, he friggin played purple rain there too! I really love the dude but I have lost faith we will ever see him in mainstream media as nothing but a 80's oldies popstar. And it is a damm shame, cuz he looks every bit as young as he did twenty years ago and can play his ass off too. he is and always will be a guilty pleasure for us who follow the real prince, the one that exists today with current material. I am sure he had little opinion on what was to take place if he wanted to open that show. and that sucks. Cuz it could have been something truly special.

Being a fan since 1982, all I can say I LOVED the performance! I was hoping to hear some Musicology just so can hear the song, but he played what the masses know and I think he did an outstanding job. Beyonce was nothing but an asset to the songs imo. He looked great, played some great guitar, and made 20 year old songs sound hot. Y'all hatin on it are being WAY too critical.

Beyonce's doing a second performance, and the commercials made a pretty big deal out of Prince being there, so I wouldn't be surprised. ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

there was a rumour a few weeks ago that janet would be involved in the surprise opening performance. i don't know how true that is but it is kinda strange that beyonce performed with prince and then again for herself. i wonder if she was a fill in?
