THE ONE.....a truly great prince song i was just listening to "the one" from the nps album and i think this song is a truly great prince song. if it had been properly promoted, it could have been a big hit for prince. i think the song is out of place on that album which is full of throwaway party songs which i dont think prince took too seriously which is why he released it under the npg name.
he should have saved it for a proper prince album and released it as a single. | |

Great song !! Esp. the instrumental part is awsome !

It was released as a promo single and video. I think the reason it didn't become a hit is because I wasn't the only one who thought it was derivative of his own past work. The only tracks on NPS that I like are Come On and Wasted Kisses.  FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I fully agree on both points : it's a great song and lost and wasted on the album. Did you hear the version he did at the Nighttown after show in Rotterdam at the ed of the ONA tour? He blended it with Alicia's Fallin' and The Question of U all on guitar and it was just magical - Now why can't we have the aftershow on DVD!!! | |

Or Le Bataclan, while he's at it. The medley he played was rather bland though. He should play it TOTALLY, with strings. I do not like his jamming and his medleys. Prince should release songs he wants to play ENTIRELY live. | |
