Re: Prince & Beyonce... Gotta give props where props are due.

I agree with many peeps on here who think the songs that Prince chose to perform were pretty lame. As a "fan" I really would have loved to see him just come out there and rock it. At first I felt like this was such a sell out. This selection of songs seemed like it was hand picked for the masses (non Prince Fans) to kind of say; "Hey remember these songs? I did that; and I still got it!" This selection of songs seemed like Prince was repackaging himself for a "Comeback" (and you don't really need a comeback when you've never really went anywhere in the first place). But after reading a post on here which reprinted the reactions of some non fans I realized this was all very necessary. If Prince intends to sell records this year then it's only wise to remind those non fans of what they enjoyed about him 20 years ago. I have also taken into consideration that this WAS a plug for The Purple Rain 20th anniversary deal and possibly some greatest hits tour; compilation...whatever he may be working on. And lastly regarding the wack ass song selection; even Sting didn't perform his new track. Obviously the theme of this years Grammy's was uniting the old with the new. Even the speech given by the boring academy guy implied that the lack of sales in music isn't just because of downloaded music; but also because there really hasn't been much music produced that is worth paying your hard earned money for. His speech made me feel that perhaps the industry as a whole has realized that they need to step up their game.

I think he looked bad. The suit was cute but WHAT IS GOING ON WITH HIS FACE? This pencil thin mustache and hair parted in the middle has him looking very... I don't know what. One person on here even asked if Prince had recently had plastic surgery, and I can understand where that's coming from cause he sure does look very different! Other then that I thought the NPG was very tight and although I hate to admit it... BEYONCE GAVE HER ALL! I thought Beyonce worked very well with Prince; her energy and performance was top notch; you gotta admit SHE DID TRY. I thought she sang Princes' tunes very nicely she didn't try and take his songs over the top with tons of bravado and her dancing created an energy with Prince that I haven't seen since Cat. Beyonce gets props for her Cinderella evening; I hope she had a ball dancing with A Prince.

This IS Beyonce we're talkin about c'mon. We all know she got NO home training...but she DID try and I see a lot of differences in her since she started out. For some reason they’ve got that girl on a pedestal and she is just NOW starting to remotely act right. She’s been speaking better and not sounding like a ghettofied knucklehead. I am BY NO MEANS a fan of Beyonce; but she is trying these days. She even toned down that “Dangerously In Love” ending (remember that mess she did on Saturday Night Live last year?). I’ve seen Prince protégés with less talent get less ribbing then this girl. She was entertaining, and cute to look at. The sad thing is; if she wasn't onstage I wouldn't have anything to say about Princes performance at all...it was just THERE; something I've seen him do a thousand times over and not impressive at all. Beyonce being there just helps to remind me that this performance was NOT for the Fams; this performance was to get the blood pumpin for those who say "Oh yeah I loved Princes' last album "Diamonds & Pearls".

you crazy americans with your overly high expectations - you really are overdoing it with the criticisms...beyonce and prince were great...your standards are way too high for a grammy performance. this wasn't a tour show or anything...this was tailored for the masses...prince was great...he put the best of his guitar and singing and personality into a few minutes with beyonce (though i admit beyonce was a little sort of in his way and overbearing in comparison to P). what more do you want? blood?

"She may not have much talent"
She is one of the best singers this generation has to offer.
I mean come on, Britney, Ashanta, these are the one that are cute and all but have no talent.

Knowing Prince as we do we know Beyonce didn't do anything he didn't ok before hand. Why are so many people trying to dog her when the man himself posted on his website years ago that he thought "the girl can sing". She may do a few too many runs but that what gets her props in her genre of music and helps her sell records. I was glad to see her and Prince together most of all because he seemed to be enjoying her singing his music.

She sure did try.

She TRIED TOO DAMN HARD.

Hoggin the mic, all those overly dramatic hand gestures and vocal gymnastics (can't these singers these days just plainly SING a song anymore? Is there some award they're all trying to win that's given to the person who can cram the most notes possible into one bar of a song?) and way waaay too much posing and prancing. Her whole persona with him seemed way contrived to me.

But - I can grudgingly accept the reasoning behind P's teaming up with this year's musical golden girl, but I'm definitely of the opinion that Beyonce didn't contribute anything very extraordinary to the performance. She's interchangeable with any generic attractive, scantily clad female with some vocal skill that would duet with Prince.

People who perceived Beyonce and Prince's performance as some musical magical moment/connection mystify me. HE was AWESOME. SHE hovered somewhere between just THERE and flat out ANNOYING.

But, I guess if she helped get Prince some much deserved attention from, and credibility with, the music-impaired MTV watchin' younguns, then... good.

I do personally hope this'll be the last Prince and Beyonce collaboration tho.

Beyonce is using a tired old formuala that every other female uses to get to the top. Sell you body and act like a stripper. It takes all women back at least 20 years. Prince loved it becuase he also uses women to sell records. They where both pimpin it out for every dime. It is not what I expected from P and certainly NOt enteratining.

Beyonce sang as she always does. She performed well. You FANatics are just pissed because she pretty much took over the song. Hello? she's a PER-FORM-ER! I don't know what made people think It was gonna be the Prince show with Beyonce on background vocals or banging a tamborine. Check the YEAR, people. its 2004, not 1984. Get real. I thought it was kinda lame. The overall performnce of both of them was good, but it was so tame it was boring. EWF & Funkadelic turned it OUT!. Nuff said!

"I" wasn't the one who said Prince had plastic surgery that was from another thread. But if you think Prince looks the same you're obviously blind. Princes' mustache and eyebrow trimmings have him looking like Gomez Adams from the adams family. And that fried out frizzy hair that reminded me of the Dirty Mind days wasn't working either. It was CRYING out for some relaxer. No; black don't crack but come on, Prince often has no idea what to do with himself and and the results are often a Typhoon with finger waves or half of his head being shaved off (Emancipation). Love the man...but he shouldn't be left alone with scissors.

I thought Prince made a big deal about never playing his past music live ever again. That aside I thought it was fun to see him play. It doesn't really matter how lame the selection was or how over-sung. Maybe one day Prince will lighten up and become fun again.

How does anyone who calls themselves a fan refer to Purple Rain material as lame. It is always good to hear Prince do Purple Raina nd it always will be. That music is Prince. Prince knows that. That is why he does not deny it.
