He Couldn't Win - No matter what he performed!

Okay, so if Prince had come ot all jazzed up and doing some slick jazz number, no vocals - then the critics would have been saying he was a washed jazz-muso, and many would say he shouldn't have been so mellow and passe!

If he had come out and done a new number, on an unsuspecting audience, everyone would have gone straight to say he was a washed up popstar, with little originality or relevance anymore!

If he had come out and done something with the Funk Masters or some other old timers, it would have been said he was well passed it, and could only reflect on classics with old men/women!

If he came out and just did one classic, like "Kiss" or "Raspberry Beret" - then he would have been pasted for being unoriginal and only able to half-heartedly bang out his most well known pop songs!

And what he did do, makes a lot of people say he should have had more class than to do a duet with Beyonce Knowles and why did he do what he did.

CAN HE HAVE DONE ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE PLEASED EVERYONE - I doubt it.

What he did do though, has brought him some support from his fanbase here (I for one, think he got it about as right as he could) - he got huge press coverage for having performed with the girl of the moment - not many female popstars/soul stars come close to Beyonce right now - whatever you think, she is damn sexy!!!

He came out celebrated his classic, "Purple Rain", played some guitar, did some sexy-shit and brought the house down running through a tight medley!

Give him a break, maybe you are all just like you mothers, NEVER STATISFIED!

Im with u all the way on this. For me personally...whatever he wished to perform it wouldve been great. For me with Prince its more bout the performance than the song-choice...

PRINCE was cool, BEYONCE's a babe, what's the problem?

I loved it.

I remember MJ got 15 mins at the MTV awards back in 1995, oh what PRINCE would do with 15 mins...

Ronny.

I said this a few days before the show...no matter what he does..someone is gonna be displeased...it's virtually impossible to please everybody...

As an artist...A TRUE ARTIST, you just have to do what you feel from within and let the chips fall where they may...

I haven't seen the performance, but I figure it was a really shrewd move to get some attention, and I don't blame him for that. I think he is just building up momentum for his next tour and release. This was the perfect move to show the world that he still kicks ass and if followed by a good album, tour and promotion, I think 2004 could become a killer Prince year commercially.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Right on the money. I am still on cloud 9 with the performance. And for all the people who want to see Prince perform alone, Prince will be inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame next month. Calm down.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
