Question - when was the last time...

When was the last time that Prince wrote a song for someone else?

He used to write loads of stuff then give it away (Joe Cocker, The Bangles, The Steeles, George Clinton, Mica Paris, Paula Abdul, blah blah blah...).

I reckon the last time he did this was for Chaka (Come To My House) and GCS (GCS 2000) with the old NPG Power Pack jobby, is this right? When was that, 1998?

NB I'm not including Waiting Room 'cos he sung on that, I'm talking about songs he's just given to other artists to use.

He's given a song to Nikka Costa for her upocming cd which I think is called Silver Tongue, and was described as a smooth jazz piece.

Aside from the Nikka Costa there is also reported to be a song he's given to Kip Blackshire for a possible future release.

In terms of the most recent released song (by release date) that he has given to another artist, the GCS2000 and Chaka Khan's 'Come 2 My House' releases appear to be the latest - as suggested. It should be noted that Prince was credited as involved in some of the tracks and the work was recorded at Paisley Park, so I guess there might be some question as to whether they should be counted if 'Waiting Room' is disqualified on the basis of Prince's contribution.

Besides that, I guess it would be 'Van Gogh' - sent in March 1998 (although it wasn't entirely his in the first place!).

Didn't he (co-)wrote a track on the Fonky Bald Heads self-titled album (1999? 2000?)?

It's (officially at least) from 2001.

As to whether it's a part Prince composition, there is some uncertainty.

The 'Fonky Bald Heads' album liner notes state that Prince co-wrote 'Rowdy Mac' with Kirk Johnson.

The publishing, as with all the other compositions on the album, is in the sole name of 'Fonky Bald Heads Publishing.'

The Library of Congress entry for the composition states:

Title: Rowdy Mac.
Note: Performed by Fonky Bald Heads.
In: The self-titled album. Kitchen Records 895 770 907-2, c2001. Compact disc
Claimant: Fonky Bald Head Music
Created: 2001
Published: 11 Jun 01
Author on © Application: lyrics, music: Kirk A. Johnson , 1964-.

Even though Fonky Bald Head Publishing is said to be ASCAP registered, and other Kirk Johnson compositions can be traced, I can't currently locate 'Rowdy Mac' on the ASCAP database to see if the entry sheds on any further light on this.
