I knew this was gonna be some ol' haterism when I clicked on the thread. I tried. To stay away...but...FUNK YOU, FUNK YOU and FUNK YOU!!!
FLAME ON!

"It wasnt his fault... besides he's in a league of his own."

Translation: not funky enough!

"The Funk medley at some good and weak spots. The young was good and the old was weak,..."
Prince didn't join and thank goodness for that.

Those "old" are the REASON the "young" even have any material to steal from. OutKast's "The Way You Move" is SOOO reminiscent of EWF it ain't even funny. The "old" were actually PLAYING and not singing to a track. hmmfp.

"He should have got up on stage and kicked Bootsy in the nuts and stole his bass guitar."

And did WHAT with it? He can't even HOLD BOOTSY'S BASS UP! Its bigger than HE is. Bootsy is the S-H-I-T on bass, fool. Ya betta recognize!

"I envision another Funk tribute in a couple years where Prince gets to have his say."

HA! HA! HA! Not likely. Prince is and always has been FUNK LITE. That's like saying that there'll be an R&B tribute in a few years where USHER will have his say. Tell ya what. Hold your breath and let's see! evillol

He is legendary of course for his music but he's in this in-between stage...audiences arent clapping for him because he's still alive, a la Luther, Stevie etc

Tread lightly when you speak of Luther. AND FOR DAMN SURE WHEN YOU SPEAK OF STEVIE!!! Nobody gives Luther and Stevie "sympathy" applause! They get respect for being the best at what they do. People clap not because they are still alive, but because they are who they are. Even if they were dead, people would clap!

"That funk tribute was SAD...old guys trying to
hang onto the funk...Prince is beyond that.
I was embarrassed to watch it."

Congratulations! That's the STUPIDEST thing ever said on this site! Those "old men" are the reason you even know what the word funk is; not that you do, judging by that comment. People with funk IQs equivalent to rainman shouldn't post on this thread. I think The Wayan's brothers are re-casting for Doofey for Scary Movie 4. Congrats. You got the part.!!!

"who cares? He got his own opening with his own songs bein played.. he could give a flip about some tribute to funk"

BUT HE DIDN'T GET THE TRIBUTE, DID HE? evillol Why should REAL funk fans give a "flip" about Prince joining in? Answer: WE DON'T! People can babble on about Prince being beyond funk, but if it ain't uncut funk, it ain't FUNKY ENOUGH! I say it again...Prince=funk lite. Saying that Prince is too good to play with LEGENDS is...
That's like going to an Irish pub and ordering a Zima. lol

You un-funky sons of bbiiaattcchheess NEED to be educated. Y'all sound like a bunch of tenagers when it comes to music - especially FUNK. With musical idiots like this on the board, its no wonder that the music biz is in shambles. A bunch of musical Homer Simpsons! Ya bunch of Duh-er-Doh mutha fuckas! evillol

Prince didn't play during the tribute -
It was STILL the BEST performance on that sad ass lame ass bullshit show.

BlaqueKnight is a jerk...but he has a point here. biggrin

Now that I think back, I dont even think Prince himself wanted to take part in that tribute...not because he couldn't handle it...but because so many people on that stage humble him...He's performed with George before. Just my two cents.

This is the part of the show I was most looking forward to. I sho hate to say you are right about GC but SHO YA RIGHT!

I listen to funk all the time on the Funk channel on netscape radio cause I try to stay funky. GC was embarrassing. And as he was walking throught the audience I kept thinking about what my girlfriend told me. She works in the Crown Room at Delta in ATL and she said when he was in there he smelled disgusting, like an old homeless man. He don't beleive in soap. I was feeling sorry for the people who were trying to touch him and I could swear people were backin up off him. I gotta watch again and see if I'm being too harsh. But I don't think so.

Never heard of Randolph etc. but I'm runnin out to get that CD wit da quickness!!
When it comes to funk, i am junkie

George at his worst STIIILL sounds better than Jack (jacked up) White. That joker not only SUCKED vocally, but play's guitar like a 6 year old. Whoever gave this bastard a guitar forgot to give him the instruction booklet! evillol Advice: Go back, , watch that funk tribute again and tell me Funkadelic sucked...not George, but ALL of them. If you can do that and NOT check yourselves into a mental institution for being CRAZY AS HELL, then I commend you. evillol

I know you are pissed because of the funk haters on this site but, this is Prince org. Some people on this site would not know funk if it fell out of the sky and hit them in the head. You really can't believe that Prince is funk lite. I have never read were he has said anything bad about Bootsy or George. I think he is a big fan. Maybe he had to leave to do his show at HOB or maybe he was not invited.

So glad Prince was not a part of this cause that thing turned into a straight up mess, pure and simple.

Robert Randolph sho-nuff kicked ass, but unfortunately for EWF Phillip Bailey left his voice in the 70's and as for George, either go to rehab now or get some high-grade crack cause he was hurting.

watching EWF and Outkast together made about as much sense as putting B2K and the Temptations together. One side was dancing 78rpm and the other side was at 33 rpm

Were ya all sleeping? Didn't ya notice Prince's nod to the Mothership Connection when he came walking down those stairs out of the bright light under the spaceship looking lighting contraption? wink

Anyway, y'know Prince would've been a distraction to the Funk tribute. It wasn't supposed to be about him. It was all good just the same. Much props to the grand-daddy funkateers. They couldn've done that all night -- I wouldn't've minded a bit.

It would seem that Prince should have been included but then he seriously overshadows most anyone he is onstage with. And he is more than just funk. It is best to give him his own segment because he is just too powerful

SO WHAT???!!!

OK, now I was slightly disappointed that Prince didn't join them, but now I'm like, so what? There was more than enough good funk there anyways.

You had Earth, Wind & Fire (with the return of of Maurice White), then Outkast, then Robert Randolph & the Family Band, then the P-Funk Mob. It don't get no funkier than that. Seeing Prince join them would've been nice, but he probably would've tried to show all them up. I'm sorry, that's how I feel. Besides, Prince is more than just funk. He does it all.

I don't disagree with any of that.

I loved the tribute, but felt that since Prince's musical ancestry includes EWF and Parliament, he could have joined them onstage. Prince was not necessary, but the fact that he was there and didn't show was disappointing.

It would have been good to see lil'fella in the cut for that one.

Okay. I'mma say this one more time. The fact that Prince wasn't in it is on Prince.

As for your comparative analysis, Prince may not be "pure uncut funk," as you say. That's like saying Magic couldn't shoot like Jordan or Bird, I can accept that, because they're all great artists in their own way. But if you're saying he isn't funky enough to share the stage with Parliament and EWF, when:

1. Clinton and EWF have praised him and worked with him; and

2. OutKast and Sleepy Brown got to perform with them

simply doesn't fly.

I can see where you're coming from on funk. You're just as much a funk "snob" as I am a jazz "snob", so we're guilty of similar afflictions. I say that out of respect, because you have good musical tastes.

But if OutKast can share the stage with George and EWF, so can Prince.

It was just unfortunate because I believe Prince would have been a welcome addition, if for no other reason than out of respect for his forbears.
