Prince's NEW label ?

This is a question for those who know !

With all of this new publicity does this mean that Prince is going to sign with a new label.
The last I heard he was going to sign a 1 record deal with Clive Davis' new label.

True or False ?

I don't know why people insist that Prince going back with Warners is some answer to whatever question they're asking...that is so stupid. For one Warners is not the same Warners Bros. it was back when Prince was with it. It has been in chambles for the last 10 years (even when P was with them). They have a new pres every other day, and now its owned by the Bacardi alcohol guy. It doesn't matter if Prince is back with Warners...so come on, give it a rest.
Trust me, its a really fucked company. One of my best friends worked for WEA...it is screwy. A new label won't really do anything for Prince.

I know that Prince was part of the mass exodus from Warners back in the 90's partly because his enemies in the organization had gained control.

Interesting.

Well, an inked deal with a major would explain a lot of things.

-Honestly, how did NEWS get a Grammy nomination? Someone had to be pushing it; and

how does Prince get to open the Grammy's? I know we all think he is amazing and worthy of anything he wants but the rest of the world would not be shocked if he was caught peekin in MJ's window...

Someone with industry clout is slowly bringing the P-Man back into the world.

And.. there seems to be some concern that Prince will become way popular again and our community will fill up with newbies. Don't worry, if Prince re-establishes himself as a pop star, he will just piss everyone off in a year or two...

Anyway, this might be a fun ride.

Well come on, lets not carried around with the "Best Instrumental Album" Grammy Nomination. I couldn't think of a less mainstream catergory...really who was there to choose from? Prince doing it is still interesting, so of course they gave him the nod.

And believe it or not PRINCE has industry clout, talent aside, even his much exaggerated declining record sales are still big numbers for a artist in the game for 25 years. So lets not act so surprised. I really think a mainstream label will just be setting him up for failure. He really can do it himself, with some fine tuning & some more die hard fan projects (Crystal Ball 2, Roadhouse Garden, Live albums etc.) He has already carved out his niche...there is nothing a mainstream label could do to help him, what artist thats been in the game for 25 years is really putting out top 40 hits? None.

Sometimes I think some of u fans want Prince back in the mainstream, cuz he was back when u guys were young. Let the guy evolve. I frankly think he is to good for the mainstream. He should take notes from Bowie: play some favs, but play the wierd stuff too, re-issue/remaster old material, don't chase the mainstream, chug along & watch how the youth catches on that what he did then is what it is "new" now.

Fuck The Majors...keep control

Nero,

You rock, I totally agree with everything you've said. Who needs PRINCE to be on a major label? I certainly don't. As long as he keeps giving us the great music he's been giving us, I'm completely happy. I don't need another "Darlin' Nikki" or "Kiss." I just want PRINCE to come to Phila. every now and then!!!

ok, my rant is over

peace

Prince will never achieve sucess as he knew it 1978-1992,however it would be nice to have his music heard by the masses. He will not have his music heard unless it is with a major label. It is very depressing to play something at a party that is 10 years old and have people say..."Is that the "new" Prince song ?"

I have been posting on this site for a few years and have mentioned numerous times that WEA was a fucked up company. Now that it is has been sold off you would think people on this board would get it but, they don't.

If he signs with the new WB it will be run by different people so he is not going back on his word.
