I guess that grudge will never end. i recently heard rick being interviewed on a radio show in new orleans. when asked about prince, he said "prince is an INCREDIBLE musician". coming from somebody that has such an apparent "grudge" and is known for his abrasive demeanor, it sure sounds like he's burying the hatchet to me. if they were to see each other right now, i wonder how that meeting would go?

I don't know, man; Prince went crazy for me. I don't really follow him. I think Prince is just making music for Prince. I heard a little bit of what he was up to, and it sounded so contrived, so self-indulgent. When I heard that song "Betcha by Golly Wow" by the Stylistics [covered by Prince on Emancipation], I just fell off the chair laughing that he could do such an atrocious job on such a classic tune. Let's see; This from a crack addict and ex-con, who married a trailer park queen. I wonder if Prince ever looked at Rick James life and fell off the chair laughing? Just wondering,,,why are u starting shit? This interview is as old as my grandma. C'mon now,,,we're talking 1996 here. Between that period and now, its possible that the man has changed. I just saw Rick James on that stupid-excuse-for-a-reality-show The Surreal Life (I was bored, OK...?).
He went to the star's house to visit that porn star guy, and Rick looked PATHETIC! He's old, FAT, and gets winded from just carrying a conversation. The man would probably drop DEAD if he stepped on stage again! Like I said before...he can laugh at Prince all he wants, cause everyone else is laughing at HIM...! Rick will never have another hit... Rick will never sell out an arena... Rick will never look as good as PRINCE while aging gracefully... Rick will never sell more records than PRINCE... Rick will never have the staying power in the industry as PRINCE will... Clive wouldnt even sign Rick HELL, NO ONE WOULD SIGN RICK... So whose laughing now...you ole fat stankin farthole LMAO

Sh*t, I fell out of the chair when Prince pulled that "Bet'cha By Golly Wow" b.s., I don't care Rick has been dissing Prince since 1980 and it has no bearing on the music. Rick James is the funk, his early 80's albums are still the bomb azz funk. Of course when he stopped druging up and got clean the funk was gone. But you can't deny his contribution. Rick's disdain for Prince goes back to when Prince was opening for Rick. Rick's mother came to one of the shows and wanted to take a photo with Prince and he dissed her and told her no. Now we all know if someone disses your mom, you're not having it...
Peace, Serveitupfrankie* Uhhh, didn't Rick James go to jail for imprisoning some woman? Hello??? So his Mom was told no, so what? His Mom should've been raising him to know that keeping someone prisoner while you're delusional on coke is not a good way to live.

This is hilarious. I won't defend Prince on this one. He should've been imprisoned-- with Rick-- for what he did to Betcha By Golly Wow. If you ever heard the original you'd know what I mean.
Rick may be a has-been but Mary Jane, Give It To Me Baby, Ebony Eyes, and most definitely You and I solidify Rick as a legend. Then there's the Mary Jane Girls' songs Fire and Desire, Superfreak etc. Anybody that starts dissing Rick on the strength of his musical capabilities loses all credibility. I've got more respect for his talent than all the Madonnas, MJs, Janets and Justins you care to mention. He's not up there with Stevie, Prince, Dylan and those likes but he's just as important as the Stings and Marvin Gayes who were very good, but not quite great artists. To hell with the who's better. His shit was/still is hittin'.

i must agree with (t)rick here, prince did butcher "betcha by golly wow"...i still think that the stylistics should beat 'im down for that chit. None the less. Fuck Rick James! One song wonder mother fucker! Drugged out wife beating pimp...I can't even believe I took the sec to reply about him.. he was hardly a one hit wonder, dear... true. he has quite a few songs under his belt, but unfortunately his choice in lifestyle overshadowed all of that so folks tend to think he was a one-hit wonder, but he ain't. he was only known for one song.. "superfreak" and Hammer made it bigger so... to many he only has one song that was decent... but perhaps only to those who were listening to pop music back then. for the r&b audience ole crackhead rick provided us with priceless gems like "mary jane", and the quiet storm classics "fire and desire" and "ebony eyes". i never liked his persona very much, but i can't begrudge him for having a song like "fire and desire", which in the eyes of many slow jam listeners, will go down in quiet storm history right next to prince's "do me baby".

Rick has recently said that he wants to release a 2-disc set of his unreleased stuff. He's got a 1989 album called 'Kickin' that was never released (it was rejected by Warners). There is also a recently-recorded acoustic album, featuring Lenny Kravitz and Rod Stewart. Then there is a 1986 Mary Jane Girls album titled 'Conversation' that was also never released.I also know about some early 70s pre-Motown material that he's got in his vaults.
