Anxiety

The thing with these two albums is, to me anyway, that there are songs from 1999 that got played into the dang ground, and there are other songs that still have some mileage on 'em...I find myself zoning out through the played-out stuff and digging on stuff like "Something in the Water" and "Lady Cab Driver"...but I find with Lovesexy, I can deal with hearing "Alphabet St." and "I Wish U Heaven" over and over again because both flow so well into the whole of the album. I think there's a lot of amazing stuff going on in Lovesexy, though it certainly isn't regarded as the iconic super-classic that 1999 is.

1999 is killer, but Lovesexy slits its throat.

Well, that's a tough one. 1999 was definetly a more 'commercial friendly' album. While it took a true fan to really love and appreciate what LoveSexy was/is...

I don't think anyone's gonna laugh that argument off the org, it can be made, but never underestimate the brilliance of Lovesexy. It is one of Prince's greatest LPs.

look, I used to lovesexy more than anything at one time...but that was because 1999 is not an album that is apparently great at first. its too minimalist and it's like there's nothing to grab onto...but it is precisely because of its minimalism that it requires many repeated listens and creates new pictures in your mind each time. it wins in longterm playability. for me, lovesexy is a very busy album in comparison to 1999, and it is almost all laid out for you...and harder to hear differently each time. to hear it NEW each time is what makes a great album for me.....and 1999 requires more imagination to listen to it...your adventures into its minimalistic depths will bring you greater rewards than lovesexy, at least in my opinion.

to sum up, i love lovesexy, it was the last of a great period for Princey...but 1999 is the CLASSIC Prince minimalist drum machine synth and bass album that we all should love and respect.

I agree with that, I usally skip straight past the first three songs on the album and begin with Let's Pretend We're Married.

Absolutely. Lovesexy kicks some serious ass but 1999 has to win this one. I love the sparse style of a lot of tunes on 1999 - lovesexy is a bit too, well, polished in comparison.

thought about it again. i just think 1999 is raw and interesting. lovesexy is slick and does not do much for me. although i like eye no and alphabet st. and when 2 r in love, the alnum just seems bland.

Actually, I like 'em both. Does it matter to me if one is considered better than the other? shake

I still like 'em equally. Forcing me to chose between them would be like a Sophie's Choice. omfg
