Sting Fans Help Me Put Together A Prince Compilation I have a friend who is a huge Sting/Police fan. I was telling her how great Prince is. Her response was I like Prince but only know his hits. So what should I put on a Prince compilation for her??

Maybe mix in some Xpectation tracks with some stuff like the long version of She Spoke 2 Me and the live version of Rainbow Children? Beautiful Strange is a must...that's been my obligatory "LISTEN TO THIS!!!" track for non-Prince-head friends for a while now.

How about 80s prince, though?

Oh geez, the 80s stuff is too personal to me, I could never tell someone else what to put on their comp from that period...just my opinion, but you gotta have fun picking the classic stuff out on your own.

Sting fans?
Hmmm, I'm not sure if Prince has done anything dull and lifeless enough to accomodate someone with that kind of taste.

Quite a few non-prince fans i know have liked Wasted Kisses.
And then whack on the early versions of 5 women and old friends 4 sale. Just because.

Ok, both Sting and Prince have performed "Ain't No Sunshine" if you have Prince's version, that could work. Also, I'd throw "Forever in My Life" on there from SOTT. Dorothy Parker could also work.
And, since the Police had that reggae influence, maybe "Blue Light"?

Hmmm, I'm not sure if Prince has done anything dull and lifeless enough to accomodate someone with that kind of taste. Now, that's a joke. Sting has a wonderful touch with harmony and melody. And, his chord progressions are often far more complicated and inventive than the fare P usually produces. He employs really talented musicians (his guitarist is a monster) and is fairly talented in his own right. I'd expect a lot of Prince fans to enjoy Sting's music.

Actually, I'm a pretty big fan of both. Of course, it depends if they're a bigger fan of the Police stuff, the early solo, or his recent solo stuff.
To me, Sting's best stuff was his early solo albums. For someone with that kind of taste, I recommend some of the following tracks (I leave it to you to put them in your own order, seeing how best they flow). Most have an either Jazz fusion element to them (like "Dream of the Blue Turtles") or a rock edge (in the vein of the "Soul Cages"), while some are just damn well crafted tunes. Some of these have already been mentioned, so take the repeats as co-signs to the earlier suggestions: She Spoke 2 Me (extended) Xenophobia (live) The Cross Starfish & Coffee Rainbow Children (live) Joy In Repetition (live) The Question Of U Shy When The Lights Go Down The Ride 6 (Madhouse) Bambi Computer Blue America Condition Of The Heart Under The Cherry Moon Sometimes It Snows In April Anna Stesia Its Gonna Be A Beutiful Night (preferably, the one from the film) Anything off of N.E.W.S., Xpectation, or C-Note For Police fans: Blue Light Ripopgodazippa Play In The Sunshine Christopher Tracy's Parade/New Position/I Wonder U Wasted Kisses When Doves Cry Alphabet St She's Always In My Hair 17 Days Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. The Hits 1, The Hits 2, B-Sides, plus a few selected others - SISIA, She loves me for me, Lovesign, The Work (pt1), 1+1+1=3, Everlasting Now, Last December, stuff like that.
Don't bother with Xpectation, NEWS, Madhouse, any outtakes or any of that crap - stick with the big songs for now!
