I was at a gay club last night and.... In the span of just a couple hours they played 3 Prince songs...When Doves Cry, Kiss, and Erotic City. It was not an 80's themed night either :O
This made me wonder, where would ya be more likely to hear P's music in public nowadays, in a str8 club/bar or a gay one? . [This message was edited Thu Jan 29 18:11:32 PST 2004 by Nikster]

From my own experiences I would bet the gay club. I've asked dj after dj to play Prince & I always hear they have NO Prince. No Prince at all.

Most gay clubs play the same boring "hi-nrg" techno crap that sounds like munchkins on speed. It's a miracle when I hear something that doesn't sound like it was done by Crystal Waters circa 1991, let alone something by Prince.

It's really depressing cuz I live in LA and you'd think the club scene would be excellent as far as music is concerned and that hi-nrg crap is all they play here too. I mean they were playing the theme some from Pocahontas and Celine Dion love songs masked over with a club beat. It's so fucking pathetic. I do love the music scene in San Francisco. Why can't our clubs bump like that? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Oh holy crap, the hi-nrg version of "My Heart Will Go On" will be played on an eternal loop when I die and go to Hell.

that's a good question. i worked at a restaurant in philly and they had an upstairs lounge called l'etage. right before i moved i was asked to spin up there. well, of course, it eventually turned into a prince-a-thon. but, with a mixed crowd in there, that was the ONLY thing that got EVERYBODY up and dancing. and i mean everybody. straight, gay, white, black, puerto rican...the other stuff had some people up but prince moved them all!

They NEVER have Prince, and they look at me like I'm fucking weird for asking, generally. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

You can take your pick of Hip Hop Nights, House, Garage, Techno(bringing in world famous Dj's every weekend), and Electro. there is a night called Vazaleen promoted by this guy Will Munroe which has recently taken off huge, it's an alternative/punk/electro night where he also brings in live performances. It is absolutely off the wall. Always something to do around here, and this is just the gay scene I am talking about... Perhaps you should come visit?

I can´t agree that gay clubs play the best music. At least not here in Germany. Most of the times they play the same old boring mixture of Kylie/Madonna/Oldies and House-Music.
On every party you go you get the same music. I was so fed up with this that i decided to organize an own party with some friends in my hometown in Münster/Germany (www.din-a-queer.de)with Indedpendent, Rock and alternative Music which is very successful because many people seem to feel the same way. We even play some Prince-Stuff from time to time like When doves cry, Sign of the times or Kiss.

Hell, Toronto ain't too far...I could even drive that shit. Sounds like a MUCH more vibrant scene than what I got goin' on ... but then again, I DO live in Ohio, so whose fault is that? Always wanted to visit Toronto anyway...I say we organize a Kweer Org-y weekend in Canada...what'chall think? Maybe if we ask real nice we can even get BananaCologne to make a cross-continental visit... No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

As far as I know, in the states the bathhouses are music-less...makes more sense to me, anyway. But maybe I've just been to the seediest of seedy bathhouses, and the top notch abercrombie ones play music - couldn't tell ya that. Did I just type all that out loud? No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

On the homo tip, I was just showering for my FAAABulous night on the town, and I was listening to "Exploding All Over Europe," which I think is the most recent unreleased track to surface. That could be a gay anthem, easy...or could've. Probably still could...throw some pink bubbles in there and show Rosie's girth...the fags'll eat it up.

The song I heard most often in recent years was Sign O the Time. The weirdest was hearing Raspberry Beret at a leather bar. [This message was edited Fri Jan 30 17:33:42 PST 2004 by Aerogram]

I was having a private dance in the back of the club and Purple Rain came on!
