So, I just bought The Gold Experience the other day.....

Now, before I listen to it, I'd like the first person to let know what to expect on this album. I've heard some songs from it already and I thought they were pretty cool. But as a whole, what should I make of this work?

This is a masterpiece. Expect raw guitars and sexuality, great melodies, and of course Prince at his usual expressive self.

I think it's a bit splashy and overproduced, but when you scrape off a couple of layers of icing, it's a pretty tasty piece of cake.

This album is another example of P working his tail off, trying to grow, and move forward. It's loud, and well produced. Have an open mind, and you'll find several gems in this one thumbs up!.

TGE is easily one of P's most satisfying albums. Even the weaker songs are still better than some of the stuff on some of his other albums.

You can play air-guitar to it, you can dance to it, you can romance to it and you can sing along to it.

And the way ':I: Hate U' melts down and 'Gold' emerges from the chaos is a wonderful Prince moment.

P Control - Spare and chunka-funky.

Endorphinmachine - Funk Rawk.

Shhh - Shhhit.

We March - We press skip.

Most Beautiful Girl in the World - Mainstream with sugar on top.

Dolphin - A song as delicious as actual dolphin meat.

Now - Not now, I have a headache.

319 - The number of times I press repeat.

Shy - The wallflower on this album.

Billy Jack Bitch - That's my jam, mufukka.

I Hate U - I don't like you so much, either.

Gold - Over-dramatized anthem.

I agree. Tho the title track is one of the most disappointing. I related to much of TGE the way I related to much of his earlier work, even tho it featured a lot of his fabled 90's studio "bombast."

Had he released this LP at around the time "TMBGITW" dropped it would have been a bigger hit.

Agree, except I like "Now" and "We March" boxed Mainly cause that was the first song played at the first concert my bro went to, and he's got a recording = AWESOME.

The Gold Experience is Prince's best album, period.

Shhh, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, Dolphin, We March, eye Hate You, Gold, Shy & Endorphinmachine are among the best songs Prince has ever written.

It's rockin', it's funky, it's the best.

Cool. You summed up how I feel about every single song except... I do like "Now" - lot. Dolphin is really over-rated at this site. It sounds like a 16 year old writing poetry and trying to sound all deep and meaningful. It makes me feel worse than "Graffiti Bridge" (the song) does.

"Gold" is a little dramatic, but I love the arrangement and the guitar solo is GREAT.
