Things Prince could learn from Zappa To continue the P/Zappa threads, here's a list of things P might learn from Zappa (and his heirs) to his and our benefit:
1) Release a three-cd box with nothing but brilliant guitar solos from live performances. 2) Compile the 14 most popular bootlegs made of him and release them in two legal boxes for far below the bootleg price - bootleg artwork and all! 3) Incorporate inspired guitar solos from live performances in studio recordings. The list could go on, but wouldn't just these three be great?

Zappa & Prince are alike in
a lot of ways. "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Things Zappa could have learned from Prince:
1) Cigarettes are not considered a "vegetable" 2) Guitar solos don't HAVE to go on forever 3) Just because it is incredibly complex doesn't mean it's good, sometimes simplicity is the key. (Having said all that, I miss Frank so much I could cry )

3) Incorporate inspired guitar solos from live performances in studio recordings.
is there a paticular recording or era where he does this or is it generally all throught his career. www.arjunmusic.com

I think he did it a lot from the mid seventies onward. He called xenosynchronization or something.

(Having said all that, I miss Frank so much I could cry ) 1) Vegetables are considered cigarettes! 2) & 3) Contrary to popular belief, Zappa didn't construct songs and play long solos for the sake of it. It's just that he had a lot to convey through his music. Now back to the topic: ~ Prince could learn to be more musically diverse, instead of playing repetitive funk riffs for several minutes, seemingly without end... ~ Prince could learn to stretch out his musical diversity by creating other types of music, instead of unsuccessfully and embarrassing thinking that his "Darth Vader" voice manipulator device on The Rainbow Children is innovative...not to mention fusing jazz with funk - something that has been done a million times already ~ Prince could learn to write good albums again, consistently - ala, The Gold Experience, , Sign O' The Times & Purple Rain ~ Prince could try using the Phrygian or Lydian modes instead of Mixolydian and Ionian modes. ~ Prince could try utilizing other chord changes apart from the typical I-IV-V progressions ~ Prince could learn to experiment with flexible time and polyrhythms, as he seldom ever does [This message was edited Thu Feb 5 3:15:03 PST 2004 by TheGoldExperience] Hey look, it's The Artist Formely Known To Sell Records
