Well, I don't think they all suck. This is just the first one I've been excited about since Chaos.

It surely is his most consistent work (together with Rainbow Children) since a long time.
Still I prefer Prince making songs instead of long instrumental jams! Especially on record.

Well I'm not comparing them musically, I'm only comparing the level of excitement I feel/felt, amount of times I listen to it, and that sense I have/had of 'Now this is what I've been waiting for'. And I wouldn't group this record with Rainbow Children either. That record didn't excite me and doesn't stand up too well to scrutiny for me. Comparing the "songs" P's put out the past few years to these "instrumental jams" & I'll take the instrumental jams. P's songwriting seems to have lost it's focus, both musically and lyrically. Of course instrumentally and on the production tip I think P's skills have only improved. But it's been a few years since I've heard a great "song" come out of P. I keep hoping that this is only the public front and behind the scenes he's turning out some tight tunes. We'll see some day I suppose, maybe when/if there's a new record.
