It's one of those albums that does have a load of really
great songs on it, but for some reason it just doesn't add
up to a great album, just a good one. I can't put my finger
on why exactly, especially since I love almost all the
tracks on it.

Like 'Batman' and 'Chaos and Disorder', 'Come' is one of those albums that doesn't quite rank up there with his classics, but when you're in the mood for it, it totally rocks.

My faves are Loose!, Space, Papa and Letitgo.

I really love Pheromone Loose! Race & Papa, and I also like
Come (though it took a long while for me to get used to the
version used on the album). Letitgo was also a slow grower,
and Dark & Solo are okay (they're certainly not bad).

So It's strange that I can love all the songs but still
have a niggling 'not quite there' feeling about the album
as a whole.

I just get the feeling that it suffered from the fall-out
between Prince and WB. It just feels like half an album in
some strange kind of way.

I know what you mean... I think part of the reason is that, although it has some tremendous songs, there aren't really any classics on it (with the possible exception of Pheromone). It almost feels like an EP somehow, and the first half is so dominated by the length of the title track.

I think had he used a more manageable version of the song Come, and maybe had 2 or 3 more really strong tracks on there, Come would be considered one of his great albums.

I understand that people like most of the songs on here, but as a whole find the album just good and not great. That makes sense to me, actually. Come is a mood album. A lot of the songs have the same atmosphere and instrumentation. It's very dark.

You'll notice that the albums that the majority of Prince fans favor are those with a wide variety of styles on them and a little lighter and bouncier- ie. Purple Rain, Parade, SOTT, and Lovesexy. The exception would be 1999, because that's pretty dark itself with most all of the songs complementing each other. But he also peppered that one with instant pop classics 1999, LRC, Delirious, and DMSR.

Anyway, you have to be in the mood for Come. And the other strike against it is that "Orgasm" becomes more an annoyance over time. And we like our albums with strong, memorable (musically speaking) endings, don't we?

cosign with Joshy on "Solo". That's a really great track, and a brilliant, subdued performance. I wouldn't change a thing about that song.

I really love the lyrics:

(When U) When I lay U down, I wanna tell U what 2 feel
(Don't U) Don't be surprised if I make U my daily meal
Lickin' U inside, outside, all sides up and down
With my tongue in the crease, baby, I go round when I go down, down, down, down...

And i really love the sax after five minutes or so.

Brilliant song. One of his best imo.

I didn't really like Come that much when I 1st heard it...it took a few listens to fully grow on me.

I think it was when I played it on headphones that I realised how good an album it was...it flows brilliantly, and other than orgasm, I can't really think of a poor track on there.
Space, Race, Pheromone...they're all great, and I still think the title track ranks as one of P's strongest songs of the 90's.

Come can easily be one of Prince's most enjoyable albums...if you're in the right mood for it.

The bit in orgasm that's the best, is his totally empty 'i love you' at the end of it. I stand up and protest every time I hear it...

I'm not going to say it again. Utter Chaos and Disorder in the same breath as Diamonds and Pearls, Come, or Rave and feel the wrath. C&D is to 5 with ease

One of my top 5 favs for sure. Pheremone, Loose, Come, Solo. . .greatness. . .oh, and I love the cover art. Let's be clear: packaging is everything. Tip: use crappy headphones, it's like photoshop filters for the ears; makes even bland production sound great! nod

IMHO "Come" is an OK Prince album. The reason its not great is that its more a collection of cool ideas than one of good, carefully crafted songs. "Hmmm, nice bassline...thats a song!", "kick ass beat...another song!". It sounds like it was a bit rushed.

It's a good album. Not great as it could've been cos although the version of Come on the album is cool, it ain't a patch on the earlier version that was on The Beautiful Experience broadcast (i think). The one on Black MF anyway. worship
