Is Prince Insane Genius, Icon, Prodigy...Nutter. 
Maybe Prince is just a great exhibitionist but I don't think all the craziness is just an act. Prince music, imagery, dance moves and all that shit R so so great but what if Mr Nelson has a secret...shhh...come closer...I'm a fucking NUTTER! 1. Since the beginning he has created worlds and places like Uptown, Paisley Park, graffitti Bridge, Alphabet St. and has invited everyone 2 come visit-inventive imagery or illussions of a nutter? 2. Prince sees people no one else can (can U say A Beautiful Mind) like spooky electric, Camille, Little girl Wendy and renames everyone he comes across like he can't accept reality and needs 2 recreate it...like an insane person does when they lose touch of reality usually through a traumatic childhood experience (could have been when his Dad left). 3. Prince creates signs and symbols 2 rival any in a religious cult like the  or the peace sign
4. Prince tells everyone 2 join the 'new' power generation or exclaims we need a 'new breed' leader, called his band the revolution and this paranoia is just like schizophrenia 5. Schizophrenia commonly gives it's victim many sides-well shit, where do I start...he admits in 'My name is Prince' "I got 2 sides and they both friends" more like 50 sides: camille, Electric Man, AlexanderNevermind, Joey CoCo-Ghost writer's, alter ego's, artistic persona's or signs of a man crying out 4 help cos he's got split personalities he cannot control I've thought Prince was insane 4 years and that he gets away with it because he laughs it off or comes up with songs like 'MAD' but think about it-what if U were 2 tell everyone that Ur changing Ur name to +--~~<= or Spooky Electric talks 2 U or 'we need a new breed' they'd take Ur ass 2 the nuthouse b4 U could say David Koresh. 
That said I believe genius and insanity go hand in hand-look at crazy hair Einstein, weirdo Quentin Tarrantino and absolute nutter Mozart  In order 2 challenge and change reality and sanity U have 2 get Unreal and insane-so let's go Crazy! As far as I see it Prince has been married to music since he was a kid. There hasn't been much time for a normal life, yet he's written hundreds and hundreds of songs. Considering that he doesn't draw much from his personal life (or at best hides it behind riddles) he doesn't have all that much to sing about. Hence the imagary and other 'crazy' stuff. Well EVERYONE has underlying mental/psychological issues that affect their behavior...that means every one of us Orgers, everyone in the NPG and yes, even Prince.
Clearly he has some issues with authority, particularly father figures...and it looks like all along he's had issues with woman as well...perhaps b/c he didn't think his mother stood up for him when she should have. And then you KNOW the sad events of '96/'97 just pushed him over the edge... No, he's not INSANE...but does he exhibit symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? Fuck yeah. Does he exhibit signs os a schizoaffective disorder? Absolutely. Do MANY people show symptoms of these disorders as well? Hell yeah. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

That doesn't mean everything in it is wrong but most of it is garbage. Diagnosis' can be matched up with anyone and if you check you'll see they keep coming up with more and more of the. All great rockstars have the same personality, sort of schizoid in terms of there being on one hand very much loners and craving for acceptance and people. Check Elvis on up. And you make the point of him creating alternate realities, this is the stamp of rock stars, you listen to the sun sessions and you hear elvis creating a new model of the world, all the great ones have that great sense of delivering something new and vital. If you want to talk about crazy, well I've been around all kinds of people, of all colors and beliefs and I finally concluded that if you get to know anyone well enough, we're all crazy. | |
