this just in...
in this mornings Detroit Free Press is a short interview with Midwest Product's Ben Mullins. they will perform a 12-song Prince set. "all of us love him, but we don't want to overdo it and just become a Prince cover band. so we thought let's do it annually and let's do it when winter is at its crappiest and just let people have fun." The Midwest Product sound, especially on the latest EP, "World Series Of Love," works in crisp tones that could be straight out of 1984 Atari land. that's actually not too far off the mark, it turns out: the band uses a Commodore 64 emulator to capture that "frogger" feel. "i really like the sounds that that makes because they're just made so simply. the Commodore had such limited resources and yet was able to orchestrate these soundtracks." | |
