The Yellow Cloud is a piece of American History! The Smithsonian said so.
http://americanhistory.si...tkid/y.htm The fact that they call him "the performer formerly known as Prince" notwithstanding, this was a fun surprise to come across! The Normal Whores Club

That is fun. I wonder why they picked the yellow one, though?

I just searched for more info, and the story goes that the Smithsonian wanted to update their musical history collection. They contacted Prince because he was "known for his distinctive and innovative style." He actually donated the yellow cloud to the museum. It appeared in a 1997 exhibition on electric guitars. and thanks to me, the rock and roll hall of fame as an orriginal yellow cloud too - to be exposed shortly along with the gun microphone, hand written lyrics of Day of Wild, and many other things they are getting from P and other collectors.
There also used to be one black cloud in an expo in mpls i think.

I live a few blocks from Smithsonian and go visit the yellow cloud every now and then. The fact that is is only a few feet away from Lousi Armstrong's first horn and in the same room with one of Dizzy Gillespie's trumpets gives Prince some of the historic and legendary credibilty that he deserves as an American muscial force.

That cloud geetar is ooogly.
It's canary-colored (too close to Morris & Jerome's taxi looking ride in PR). It's glam, with no traces of rock and roll to be found. It's too refined. If not for the movie (PR) I doubt it would be as famous as it is. You can't play "Partyup" with it and sound/look right. You can't play the solos from the 1999 album and sound/look right. The Hohner Telecaster is more historic, and more versatile. But 'tis better than not having any Prince axe in the Smithsonian. Flame away...except for you, Sinisterpentatonic. You stay out of it. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

The peach-colored cloud guitar was in the Minnesota Science Museum at one time (1990). I'll have to go and find the shots I took of that thing. NCC2012... your local Trekkie. =/\=

if anyone of his guitars should be in there, it should be the one with the leopard print on it that he continuously (and to this day) uses. Or the << that one looks like it could put an eye out... Sex Kitten

Are you saying people should be beaten to death with it??? Of course not! Oh my God! That might damage it! It should be placed high upon an alter and before it should be sacrificed small animals and ugly virgins. ![]() Proud member of Prince's cult for 20 years! ![]()
