COME (test press) vs COME

which do u like better?
the album prince delivered to WB in march 1994 included:
poem
interactive
endorphinmachine
space
pheromone
loose
papa
race
dark
solo
strays of the world

different from what was released in august. poem was broken up into orgasm and segues, interactive and endorphin cut for the 12 minute jazz version of come, and strays of the world dropped in favor of letitgo. i like the first version better, it's a near perfect album, imo.
what do u think?

my twocents - why would prince issue an album lacking a title track, especially since he had such a great one here? he could have used poem as segues and opened the album with the beautiful experience version of come to make for a real killer.
and what's with letitgo? he probably wanted to use letitgo because it was newly recorded, but musically, this is simply a dull song (and to think it was a single!) strays of the world has fire, drama, beauty, melody, while letitgo just plods along...very pedestrian. it predates the laid-back, funky jazz vibe he explored on jam of the year and emale among others, which i dig. but doesn't quite cut it next to the energetic grooves on this record.
the test pressing of come is a (nother) lost prince classic!

"Letitgo" is GREAT. Great produciton, great lyrics. Describes his mindset at the time. I've always dug this song.

I love 'letitgo'.

Out of interest, what's your problem with that song?

Has to be the released version. The tracks on it work well together to form a 'proper' lp. As FunnyWay said: 'a journey'.

'Interactive' and 'Endorphin Machine' seem out of place on the 'Come' lp. 'Strays of the World' would probably of worked, but as a song i really don't like it so i'm pleased it was left off.

Have you ever heard the 'test pressing' version? Those songs DO work and it is a much better and stronger album. 'Interactive' is the version from "Crystal Ball" and 'Endorphinmachine' is different and better than the version on "TGE". That's my opinion anyway.

I've got the test pressing on bootleg, but I much prefer the officially released version. I would, however, have dropped the crappy "Poem"/"Orgasm" from the album in favour of "Endorphinmachine".

I like it the way it was released. I don't think the other jams fit the album. Especially Strays.

I think the original test press worked much better. It flowed, and you can tell it was the original cut of choice.

Many fans who do not favour the Come Album complain that it does not flow. Its no suprise. I was not supposed to. The original did.

I still think "Acknowlegde Me" should have made the cut smile

Uh... That was on Gold. biggrin

But I agree. The original, unreleased Come album is much better and a much more wholesome album than the released version. nod

Also, Letitgo is like... feeling ill ill barf

And the original version of Endorphinemachine rocks. biggrin

i prefer the released version, by far. Endorphinemachine ended up sounding much better and fitting better on Gold. Strays of the World is a throwaway, and so is Interactive, IMHO.

The test pressing was much better with Interactive and Endorphinmachine before he screwed it up.
