what is Prince's most un-prince like side project?

Too often, Prince's side projects sound like him. That was why Bonnie Raite wouldn't do an entire album with him. That got me thinking about when he has just stopped being PRINCE and produced someone else (or even written for someone else) that didn't sound like Prince.

I might be tempted to say the Family, but the only thing that really makes it different was Clare Fischer's strings. I would probably have to say MADHOUSE, or maybe even The Time.

anyone have a better suggestion?

I thought that the thing with Bonnie had something to do with her personal drug addictions and not Prince's music sounding too Prince like...

the MC Flash stuff. it's a lot more bluesy than anything Prince had done up to that point (and for awhile longer).

I'm surprised that he worked with Kate Bush. The woman rules prog-rock, I wonder how she even MET Prince to work with him.

I'd have to agree with you. Ingrid Chavez was Prince's most different album. It didn't have the drum and rhythm that ALL of his other projects (both Prince and associates) had driving them. I think Prince's influence was limited as it was basically produced by Levi, Ingrid and Michael Koppelman.

Regardless, I think this is the winner!
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I'd have to say either the song he wrote for Kenny Rogers, or Money Don't Matter 2Nite, which always sounded like bad Steely Dan to me.

I'd say The Rebels. When I first heard it I was sure it was a fake.
