not technically a cover, but I always thought the Family's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" was rather dull. how someone in Sinead's camp heard that and thought "oh, what a great song to cover" i'll never understand. thankfully they did and she made a beautiful version of it. and because of that, Prince reclaimed it and made an even more beautiful version.

I actually quite like it, except for the first line, Pete always cracks me up there.

Pete has a very different voice from Prince, and remember he makes Hi-NRG records, not the same stuff Prince does.

I think they give a sinister edge to the song that works.

That whole album has alot of hit or miss covers on it. The one of Darling Nikki by John Stamos's wife is pretty bad too. However, Missing Person's cover of I Would Die 4 U is very original and quite cool.

First...the Dead or Alive cover of "PopLife" is a blatant rip-off of the Siouxie and the Banshees song "Kiss them for me"...they used the same exact intro sample.

And I'm sorry..but PETE LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!



Second...the WORST cover ever (and it pains me to say this because I thought it would be okay) is David Byrne's (Talking Heads) version of "The Future"

Mariahs version wasn't all that bad (if you ignore Sisqos attempts in the background), it grows on you eventually.

NONE of these are worse than PRINCE'S cover of "Every Day is a Winding Road" by Sheryl Crow.

Seriously, check out The Ukranians version of Nothing Compares 2 U. So bad it's good (maybe?!).

Although the MXM version of it on that tribute album (which is called Symbolism BTW - I bought it just before Christmas) is just so bad it's bad.

(Symbolism's got some good songs on it too. Honest.)

The swedish band "Docenterna" did a cover of "Kiss" in the late eighties entitled "Puss". The lyrics were in Swedish and its still the worst cover I've ever heard. Wonder if Prince has heard this version.

2. When did David Byrne cover "The Future", and where can I find it??? Even if it's awful, I wanna hear!

3. The WORST Prince cover ever, in my opinion, is Dale Bozzio's version of "I Would Die 4 U" from that equally hideous "Party O The Times" tribute album...it sounds like a post-menopausal aerobics teacher having multiple orgasms in the pet food aisle of Safeway, ouch...

Tom Jones, for making me long for the falsetto voice of Prince and screaming his lungs out in the one part where he sings no particular sign i'm more compatible with (that part gets to me a little). Tom Jones ruined "Kiss"
