What song or album got you into Prince?

i think Batdance was the first one i was aware of. but a few of the singles from the Diamonds & Pearls album got my attention (especially Gett Off). 7 was the one that made me a fan smile

how about you?

Yeah, me too I guess, but it was Hits 1 and 2 that made me realise he was, in fact, a complete genius.

The girl I was besotted by at the time asked me for the latest Prince album for her birthday present.

I had never bought a Prince album in my life.

I bought "Lovesexy" and, in the manner of all those who bought vinyk, played the record to check for scratches.

I WAS HOOKED. Played it again and again. Gave it to her for her birthday present and then spent the rest of 1988 catching up!

The artist of the decayed...well, I mean that...(he has).

I remember that ATWIAD was the second album I bought. Blew my head clean off my shoulders!
Can't remember much of the '80s after that...one splendid voyage after another...!...wish it was the same now.

I was pretty much born into worshipping Prince, so it didn't matter what he put out then, I liked it.

As far as I can remember, 1999 was out and Prince became a rising star and being the toddler I was, I was totally into it. But when Purple Rain came out, that just cemented my belief in Prince.

Despite what everyone's saying now, Prince is the greatest!

Had been listening to the Prince album, 'cause my girlfriend (now wife) was way into him. Bambi was the shit. Then Dirty Mind dropped, and all the kids who liked punk and funk had to have a copy. I was sold. 1999 came out and now the parties had a soundtrack.

Purple Rain blew up, and I'm like, 'swhat I've been sayin', bitches.

When Doves Cry~

Then I heard the album, Take Me With U, and The Beautiful Ones were standouts.

However: Around The World In A Day - Blew Me Away...

Especially the song "America"

At that time I bought every Prince album back to his first.

I was hooked, and here I am to this day, still hooked ~

The first Prince album I ever heard was Diamonds & Pearls when I was in 7th grade and it's still one of my fave records of all time. I liked him and I bought his records but I didn't get SERIOUSLy into him untilI was a senior in college. I think I was listening to Emancipation at the time. So those 2 records were my gateway into the "Land O' The NewPower Funk!"

I heard "Lets Work" on the radio, and got it confused with Knee Deep'', I thought this Prince group is pretty good.

All of his hits got me into Prince, especially "Let's Go Crazy", "Raspberry Beret", and "Little Red Corvette". After that, I bought the Purple Rain album and DVD, The Very Best of Prince, and now I can't get enough of him! I'm a relatively new Prince fan, and besides those albums that I mentioned, I only have Dirty Mind, SOTT, The Rainbow Children, and Rave. I'm getting all of them without a doubt, but next I'm planning on getting Crystal Ball.

That was the one... I saw the video before I even heard
the song on the radio. I dont think I even knew who he
was before I saw the video. I was 9 years old and I remember
watching the video thinking that was the kinda man I wanted
when I grew up. He was the most beautiful man that walked
this earth when I was 9... Okay I admit it I still feel that
way about him now. redface

my first taste of Prince was seeing the "1999" video in'97. i loved the beat, and he intrigued me a lot cuz i never saw anyone like him before. I wasn't really a fan yet but i liked him. at first i thought he was just another one of those one hit weirdos from the 80's. Then i was listening to Rick Dees top 40 in 97, and this lady requested "U got the look",well actually the lady couldn't remember the name of the song, and Rick didn't know either, so looked it up in this big book of number ones, and found "U got the look" and ever since then i've been hooked. and i now that i'm catching up, i'm still finding a whole bunch of songs that are making me a bigger fan.
