An Indifference to Lovesexy... I was in a local flea market today and picked up Lovesexy on cassette for a $1. Now on this site in the past, I've noticed that Prince fans either love this album or can't stand it. For me, even though I've heard it before, as soon as I popped it in the cassette deck I felt an indifference towards this record that never left while listening to it. No, Alphabet Street, Ana Stesia, Wish U Heaven & Lovesexy immediately stick out and are decent. While Glam Slam, Dance On, When 2 R In Love & Positivity don't go anywhere whatsoever.
The funny thing is that even though the tape started to wobble and slowww dowwwn likeee thisss, on Positivity I didn't really care if it did or not. Now, should I give Lovesexy a third listen or just refer to it as one of his worst albums? Because I doubt it's going to grow on me... Hey look, it's The Artist Formely Known To Sell Records

Lovesexy is definitely worth a few listens. When I found the tracked version of the CD a while back, I found myself really getting into the album a lot more than I did when I only had the untracked version. To be able to go straight to one particular song and play it over and over again ('Positivity' being the best example) made all the difference to my enjoyment of the whole thing.
Then again, maybe this album just isn't your cup of tea. It's like me and Sign O The Times - no matter how many times I listen to it, I still can't get into it.

There's always been a US/UK divide on this album. In the US it bombed and the tour didn't do very well. Over here in the UK, it was a critical and commercial success with "Alphabet Street" being one of the 4 P songs that even the non-fans know and love (the others being the title tracks from PR & SOTT and When Doves Cry). It was one of the albums that every cool kid in our school had (along with The Cure 'Standing On A Beach' and The Pixies 'Doolittle'). Funny old world, isn't it? I say keep giving LoveSexy a chance. It took that album a good 6 months to grow on me and YEARS to become my snd favorite Prince album...
The only track for me that hasn't held up well off this CD is Glam Slam. I Wish U Heaven, on the other hand, I used to consider a throw-away track. Now it's one of my favorite 'Prince-Pop" tracks of all time.

so, your tracklisting is like this:
A1. eye no A2. alphabet street A3. anna stesia A4. i wish u heaven A5. lovesexy B1. glam slam B2. dance on B3. when 2 r in love B4. positivity weird. not the same as on the cd (and vinyl?). i thought he didn't track the cd's because he wanted people to listen to the whole album in a certain order. i like the album. it has its moments. but it's no 'sign', 'dirty mind', 'parade' or 'purple rain' though. i've learned to love most of the songs on 'lovesexy'. only 'when 2 r in love' (too corny) and especially 'positivity' don't do it for me. 'positivity' is a weak ass song imo. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

Other than SOTT and 1999, I think Lovesexy is Prince's best album.
It's one of his masterpieces, withoubt doubt.

The album Lovesexy is still ahead of it's time. However, it's time was 1988 and to hear songs like "Anna Stesia" and "Lovesexy" while the radio was playing stuff like Bobby Brown and Tiffany was a trip. And not to mention, many of us got to witness one of the greatest tours ever to promote this album and that maybe why we hold it as near and dear as we do. After this album, Prince started showing signs of being human and releasing less daring and inovating albums.

It took me ages to get into LoveSexy, now it's one of my favourite albums.
This album is alive. "London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"
"YEAH!!!" "Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

Don't forget Kiss. Oh yeah :slapsforhead: Start again, in the UK, there are 5 P songs that even the non-fans know & love:- Purple Rain When Doves Cry Sign O The Times Kiss Alphabet Street Sexy Motherfucker Oh shit! 6. Can anyone think of another so we can make it the magic number? Hmmm. What popular song would make it SEVEN? As for Lovesexy, I've always thought it was rushed and incomplete.
That's the feeling that struck me when I first listened to the album and that's still the feeling I get as I listen to it for the upteenth time. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Me too...A lot of Prince fans raved about this record..Some people said that the album lead them to God. That is a good thing...But I still don't see what the hoopla is about.. After Sign O The Times I was really anticipating this album and bought it the day it came out...I thought it was average to good...but superior...I'm sorry...The album bombed here in the states.Over the years though(especially on the internet..on Prince fans websites) fans have really embaced this album and on a few polls{consisting of what is his greatest album}people have voted this album as his greatest. The last time I listened to it which was some time last year{that was my first time listening to it in years}...and my feelings still haven't change.
