Time Waits For No One I've been listening to Mavis' first Paisley Park album for quite a few days now. Somehow I find Time Waits For No One quite the Christmas song, even though the lyrics have nothing to do with Christmas. Maybe it's the mood of the song - Christmas and New Year is often a time for making reflections on one's life? Maybe it's simply the bell chiming on it that I associate with Christmas?
ANYWAYS: I love this album and that song and just wanted to pay it a little tribute. Anybody else who just adores this album? FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

You know what, I've never played the album. My turntable went bung at the time I bought it, and I've been overseas for the five years since. How does it compare to The Voice? Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

It's much better. Prince actually plays on this one. In fact, it's mostly Prince songs that he ended up giving to her. I don't think any of the songs were written specifically with Mavis in mind. Train is the old Prince and the Revolution Dream Factory track. Come Home is one of his songs about Susannah following their break-up. Interesting and Jaguar were for Sheena Easton, I think. I Guess I'm Crazy is one of his standard ballads and Time Waits For No One could easily fit in with his 1988 Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic material. So basically it's a Prince album - just with Mavis on lead vocal. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

"Come home" is a truly great, classic slow-tempo prince track. Mavis sings it beautifully, and prince's instrumental arrangements really shine on this one

I absolutely LOVE that song too. But I can't help wondering that if he ever sent this song on a tape to Susannah (like he had done with other classics such as The Beautiful Ones, Condition of the Heart and Empty Room) it's no wonder, she didn't respond. In the lyrics, he says he doesn't know why she left or what he did to make her do so - basically playing the innocent, hurt part, which seems a little silly considering it's been made public knowledge that she left because he kept cheating on her with other women. And don't tell me he didn't know that. I still love the song, though. I also love "I Love You, But I Don't Trust You Anymore" despite suffering from the same lyrics denial-syndrome. i think the voice is stronger. but i like time waits. actually , both of those records are half prince productions, like elisa fiorillo or tevin campbell. he writes/plays about 1/2 of the material and someone else does the other songs.
the title track to time waits is superb. ever seen the video? prince shows up at the end to play his guitar solo, standing by a street light with a long black coat on. it's cool. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

I Guess I'm Crazy
I can see U without even looking I can hear U and U don't have 2 make a sound I can feel U without even touching I am near U even when U're not around CHORUS: I guess I'm crazy, crazy 'bout U, boy I guess I'm crazy, crazy 'bout U, boy Guess I'm crazy, yeah, yeah On a crowded street there is no one Only U and me, if only in my heart This feeling can't be beat, loving U's so fun, so fun A fire burns in me, I don't need a flame 2 start it CHORUS If I could somehow make U see Everything U do 2 me Maybe then U'd realize U're the reason 4 this look in my eyes Don't U wanna hold me? Say U wanna hold me I belong 2 U even though U don't want me If I'm in love with U, it's plenty a reason 2 be alive No one understands, they say that I'm foolish They say I should let U go, but U, U are my destiny CHORUS Ooh, if somehow I could make U see (Crazy, crazy about U, boy) All the things U do 2 me Maybe then U'd realize (Crazy, crazy about U, boy) That U're the reason that I'm alive U can look in my eyes (Crazy) Maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe U know (Crazy, crazy about U, boy) I'm crazy about U, boy Just one look, just one look, baby (Crazy, crazy about U, boy) I guess I'm crazy (Crazy) (Crazy) {x3} Sugar, sugar, yeah, yeah, yeah

This is a great album and the title track is absolutely wonderful. Whenever I hear it, it both breaks my heart and inspires me.
I need to get this on CD. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

It IS on CD, but is going at ludicrous prices, unless you're lucky to find it at some local 2nd hand record store dealer who has no idea about its value.
Me, I've only got it on vinyl, too. FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

LOVED the video, too. Prince just has a cameo at the end but it is quite an appearance. Prince acts as a "street musician" hanging out in a long tan overcoat under a street light and then busts out the solo. One of his coolest looks, IMO.

Great album.
Mavis rips up Train. Like her version better than Prince's. And the title song is everything people say; Bonnie and Sheila on backingvox, Prince's sublime guitar solo. It all makes it a BEAUTIFUL track, with a sad notion of loss.
