Real Music by real musicians. Those who attended were rewarded.
Prince and the band dropped Musicology on us at the Maceo Parker show friday night. The look on people's faces when Prince took the stage was something to hold. Casual/non-fans went nuts and were saying; "Wow, we just saw Prince. Wow. He is cool" I will let someone else do the review but last night was real loud for a lil bit. Someone did take pics with a cellphone but P's bodyguards were all over him shortly after. Silence Speaks A Thousand Words.

Prince showed up with his entire band and played 2 songs:
Musicology and No Diggity (Blackstreet cover) NEVER thought he'd play this, though i could imagine it was hella funky! for more info check the concerts forum.

Ummm...not to good with reviews...Prince is still fine had on a beige suit with some low-heeled boots...he put one near the end of stage and some lucky women (or man?) got to rub it. I couldn't see. Also an errant bra flew on to the stage
Maceo had been performing for about an hour maybe...f/Greg Boyer on trombone and Morris Hayes on keys. The NPG band, then Prince was spotted upstairs enjoying the show for awhile. Maceo started introducing Prince's band 1 by 1, first Candy D., then Renato, then John B,then Rad...by this time those of us in front had spotted Takumi (sp?) and I was about to break my neck trying to figure out which end of stage Prince was going to come in. He and Rhonda came on at about the same time then the already loud noise became deafening. He did "Musicology" which was unrecognizable (by me at least) until the chorus due to the noise level. Next was a medley of "No Diggity" by Blackstreet. As usual, Prince was all over the stage worked things like a master, etc. At the end, he did a little "Prince-ly" look like the end of Purple Rain where he turned around with those sexy eyes and ...oh lawd. I don't have pics, but i'm anxious to see any that someone took...so hurry up Phunk!

I went to hob.com and looked at the slideshow for the Sunset Strip location. Mostly pix of the decor and stuff. (There is a pic of D'Angelo performing.)
Anyway, maybe keep your eyes on hob.com. Perhaps they'll post pix!

. You get out much player? Granted it was Prince guesting and all, but all kinds of live sets go down like this. F'r instance, I was up in there the night before with BO DIDDLEY droppin' some throbbaristic funk laid down pre-Princey-poo. test

btw, this reminds me of when I saw Sheila E. at the Ritz years ago. I thought the place was going to cave in when the first strains of "Erotic City" started playing and Princes comes out! OMG! It was so awesome!

That show was so sick last night. On their own accord, they were in outter funkin' space!... Way too cool that Prince and the band jumped on it also!
All I have to say is... I knew it was gonna happen. Too many Prince sightings in LA this week. As late as Wednesday. No way he wasn't gonna show. None of my friends, believed. Those who made the scene were groovin! cracknbush

Those who made the scene were groovin! Uh huh I heard some rumors 'bout it last week when I was crashin' NAMM parties. So I think he mighta been mixin' business and pleasure. With me it didn't matter cuz MACEO is "must-see" cuz of the FUNKADELIC connection. Rule of thumb is: when MACEO plays LA, he's gonna have some guests onstage . To our pleasure, they're usually doin' something new and unplanned! Last time thru Stevie was up onstage leading us thru some kind of ditty he was messin' with. test

Playa, Playa. I was right up front & center all the time; a bit off cnter so I could yell at Skeet, Greg and Fred and flash 'em funk signs all night That do-rag dude came in on my right, but he was out at the back before Prince came out. I'm a couple shades darker than him (shorter too). When Prince came outI was lettin' babes through who wanted to touch his boot or somethin'. Some fool in a green running jacket came crashing thru and I had to push him back. Then some chick jumped behind me thinking I'd keep her spot safe from the on-rush. jseven that's not fair! You've seen Prince way more times than the fans in Minnesota and the Midwest in the last couple of years. We have waited in the bitter cold many times hoping the doors to Paisley Park would open. Even so, it's nice to know that you were rewarded (again) in sunny LA. I know exactly what you mean when you say "Real Music by real musicians"
