A New Year (Oh lawd...)

A New year has come and we have already started on the bad foot. Now this whole issue with Guide2prince.org is just plan stupid. I'm going to come out and just say it. I heard that it had to do something with bootlegs which got the site shut down. Now, We all know that Prince has trying to get bootlegs off the streets for a while but the reality part about it is..as long as there is music..then there are going to be bootlegs. Some months ago, or probably a while back, Prince wanted everyone who had Bootlegs to send them in to him so he could get rid of them once and for all. Prince should have thought about the fact that no one was going to listen. But you guys can't blame, Prince for this. Just think what you would do in his position. If you were Prince or any other artist out there that had been bootlegged, you would want to stop it all. It's just money coming out of his pocket. He loses money each time someone bootlegs. Now if you were him, what would you do? Prince has just failed to realize that people aren't going to stop bootlegging..Hell It's saving them money.
Who knows what's going to happen. I'm not trying to say Bootlegging is wrong..I'm not trying to say it is right either..I'm not taking sides..I just was hoping that this years was going to be pretty good.
Suddenly I'm predicting that more sites are going to be shut down..sigh..and more issues about bootlegging are going to start popping up..
Fans are pissed..
And everyone was saying that this was going to be a good year for Prince fans :shrugs:, Who knows? But this shit needs to stop..4 real..We can only hope 4 the best..

Hopefully..
Peace and Love,
Michele
Peace and Be Wild!!

I too was (am?) hoping that 2004 would be a year of good new Prince music coupled with some recognition for all the great music he's done in his long career.
There's already some ugliness & it's only January! Hope it gets better.

i try not to criticize Prince too much. but if not amongst Prince fans, then where else can one do it? so...

can you tell us exactly how Prince loses money when people buy bootlegs? because i can't see how he does. anyone that's willing to pay the prices Prince bootlegs cost already has all of the released material they can get their hands on and will be standing in line at the record store the morning new material is released (even if they already have it on a bootleg).

if he isn't putting it out, then he's not losing any money on it.

for example, if i'm travelling (which i often am), i may stop at one gas station with the intent to fill up my tank AND refill my 64 ounce cup with pop. if i go in to pay for the gas and realize that they don't have a soda fountain, and then go to the gas station a block over to do that, then i'm not taking money out of the hands of the first gas station. i'm paying for what they have to offer me. if they had a soda fountain, then i would have gladly gotten that service there and paid for it. since they did not, and i desired to have that need fulfilled, i took my business elsewhere.

the next time i stop at that first gas station, they may have installed a soda fountain in the meantime, and i'll pay for my gas and my pop there. until then, i'll buy the things i want and need where they are offered.
We are the heat and the light in the forest. Without us this is only a place. With us it becomes an adventure.
