prince didn't play guitar solo's on 1999 tour?

i was watching triple treat video, and i noticed that prince was only playing rhythm guitar ,dez was playing lead guitar.
isn't that strange ,just a year before prince was handling guitar solo's.
maybe im wrong, was prince playing solos on other 1999 shows?

Well, tboth guitarists kinda played both ryhthm & lead. But I think it's still safe to say that Dez or any other additional guitarist is a rhythm guitarist.

"Triple Treat Tour" lol

By the way, I want that video. hmmm

I never saw any 1999 shows but i know that Dez was a terrific asset to the early Prince sound. If you look at the liner notes for 1999 you'll see that it's was him that came up with some of the solos. Little red corvette's belongs to him, and is my personal favorite. On the Purple Rain video he exchanges lead guitar duties with Wendy, but its clear that he's the better player. Prince does so many things well that it's understandable how he would want to lighten his load a little in one area so he can take care of another. It's been said that he does nothing particularly distinctively, i don't know about that but I do believe what he does do, piano, guitar, drums, production etc..all at a level that we have never seen from anyone else.

... I think your right, Prince didn't play any solo's during the 1999 - tour.
That's one reason why the Controversy - tour is far more brilliant ...
that's the tour with the most brilliant guitar-work (no ... ONA doesn't come close)

Dez and Prince had chemistry like I haven't seen between him and anyone else.

Yeah, Prince has dropped the guitar a few times.

Look at the Parade tour. Plenty of the Guitar, but not from the man. He only really picked it up for Purple Rain.

Nude featured very little P guitar, and D & P had hardly any.

PRINCE PLAYED guitar solo on head, purple rain, america on parade tour.but many times i had a feeling(while i was watching his1980-es video concerts) that
since 1985 prince tried to get away from guitar hero image.
yes he was playing guitar but he rarely looked
like he was enjoying it.
he looked like"oh shit i have to play guitar"
he looked like he was feeling free ,
when he leaves guitar.
also his 1985-1989 period was very no guitar oriented.
now days he seems ,
much more interested in his playing.
he enjoys it much more and he improved quite a lot.
before when he played fast you could heard bum notes,
now days he plays fast and clean.

Head? I though he was too busy fucking the microphone to play guitar? As for America, did it get played much beyond the Rotterdam concert?

But I know what you mean. He did seem bored with it. He seemed a lot more at ease with the guitar in The Gold and ONA tours.

after that he rips into guitar solo that lasts for about 2 minutes.(great guitar solo ,clean).
