AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!!!!!

WOW! That HONG KONG performance was amazing. I cant believe that PEOPLE still LONG for the REVOLUTION over this curret lineup of the NPG. Sure I love to get RETRO and all that, but thereis no way that any of those members could rise to that LEVEL, just no way, Im not knocking the REV but its just true, The SAME goes for PRINCE, there is no way U can even compare him as a musician NOW to the way he was back then, I mean he is on a whole other LEVEL, so stop comparing.
That Performance of SSHHH was even better than when I saw it live with NPG lineup that played on the track. If I was PRINCE this is the EXACT type of performance that HE needs to do at the RR HALL OF FAME show if he plays. TEAR IT UP and LEAVE NO SURVIVORS!

Why don't you just enjoy Prince your way and let us enjoy him ours? nod Sure the performance was awesome, but is this the first time you've seen him play guitar or something? Why don't you get a little retro and go watch Shhh from 94 that band kicked it just as hard if not harder.

Once again My point was stop COMPARING bands, if U like the Revolution, fine, listen to it, u have all the records, But his is where the MAN is now, accept it or Leave it. But stop wishing for that REVOLUTION comeback, which aint gonna happen, or PRINCE becoming a "HIT" artist again, because that AINT gonna happen either. And second of all I have seen PRINCE 42 times in concert ranging from THE RITZ in 1980 to AVERY FISHER HALL in 2002, and YES i saw PRINCE in 1994 3 times in JULY with that LINEUP which was AMAZING but IM SORRY this lineup could take that ONE easily

He needs to drop "Baby, I'm a Star" from the set altogether, period, and forever. Especially since he tends to do less dancing these days anyway. More than any tune off Purple Rain that one is a relic of 1984 and should stay there.

Good perf though, in general. I love how he's playing a Strat now (with the Floyd Rose!), but he puts his EMG pickups from the other guitar in it, so what's the point? You'd think after twenty years I'd give up trying to figure this guy out...

Vegas-y--bullshit! That performance was not "vegas-y" at all... I've never heard a vegas gig as funky/soulful as the groove of Shhh. Blackwell's drumming and Rhonda's bass playing were superb as usual. R.A.D., Renato and Chance held the keyboards down, can someone say Hammond Organ!!! Furthermore, the addition of R.A.D. has really improved the background vocals, while Prince's laid back vocals were effective and soulful. Prince's guitar solos on Shhh were tight as well, especially the closer. This band is tight and their performance of Shhh is one of the best I've seen. I don't know, maybe I have the wrong impression of vegas type shows because Prince's performance was far from it!

So your point was to stop comparing bands but you do that by comparing them?? hmmm So you say Prince is at this "new level" yet the performance was based on one song from 1984 and the other from 1994. I love the Revolution, that's no secret, but my thrist for a reunion was quenched last December, I seen the band and they still hold that Prince magic whether he was there or not. The only Prince line-up I didn't see was with Andre and Gayle, other than that I've seen them all and IMO no one played Prince music better than the Revolution. The Lovesexy band would also be waaay up on my list too, they were just amazing.

It never ceases to amaze me that people still miss the point with this whole 'band' thing.

The Revolution have never been held up as some great live band. Certainly Prince has had bands that were more technically sound than The Revolution. But that's never been what is was about with that group. The value of that group, specifically Wendy & Lisa, was their contribution to his songwriting and overall sound. And it's been documented by every significant Prince biographer of note.

Prince will always be surrounded by tremendous musicians. If R.A.D., Rhonda, Renato or whoever else were dismissed tomorrow, they could be replaced by equally capable musicians. I'm not certain that Prince has ever allowed another group of musicians to have the sort of influence over his music that he did The Revolution. And in the instances where he has (Kirky J., Tony M. rolleyes), it has produced disastrous results.

Reminds me of what Miles said about Prince in '89...everytime u see him he changes just a little bit.

He adds just a bit to make it interesting... undistinguishable
to the passing observer.

EXACTLY.

prince always surrounds himself with brilliant musicians. the difference was the revolution had artistic minds of their own and therefore brought something to the table besides the ability to follow some sheet music. i seriously doubt rhonda, renato, john or rad bring unfinished pieces to the studio and jam it out with prince. and i'm sure prince doesn't say to one of the bandmembers "hey, i'm having a problem here, can you do anythin here?" if that goes on, it is incredibly undetectable.

the revolution (especially wendy and lisa) were a band, working together. right now, and for the rest of career since, prince is a bandleader with his bandmembers simply playing on command.

but, regardless, i'm glad the people who watched the performance tonight enjoyed it!

I see what you're saying although I do think the Revolution were an amazing band live, especially on the Parade tour. Look at Bruce Springsteen, he had the E Street Band and then for awhile he replaced them. Now, some of the people he replaced them with were better musicians but they just didn't have the MAGIC with Bruce that the E Street Band does. I'm not even a Springsteen fan and I could see that. The Revolution was Prince's E Street Band, sure there's been more technically advanced musicians since them, but no other band has that chemistry or magic that they had with Prince. They were his family as well as his band.

taped it! just watched it! loved it!! but, did Prince 4get some of his own lyrics 2 "BABY I'M A STAR"? look like his hand gestures were not his normal routine especially 4 the line he was singing. also, during the song he did a little jazzing scat over one of the lines(was it b cuz he 4got it?). however, "shhh" did kick some serious ass. got my panties all wet, and I'm a dude...!!! left me wanting more!!!

Aside from talk related to the band, let me pose another comment...

How cool would it be if the Vegas DVD was shot with the same care and quality that Hong Kong Rocks was! For all those who thought the DVD wasn't that bad, watch Hong Kong Rocks and see what a professionally filmed concert looks like!

His performance was tame and lame. He did some nice guitar work and his voice was on point, but for someone who hasn't been on worldwide TV in ages, he really made shitty use of his time. It's like his common sense went right out the window and got hit by a truck as it hit the ground.
