TICK TICK BANG + LITTLE MISS LOVER

i had a revelation today and i noticed that Little Miss Lover by Jimi Hendrix starts with the exact same drum pattern as Tick Tick Bang.

did P steal the sample and just tart it up or did he programme drums just like it? if he programmed it theni think it's a good job. if he sampled, then...well i dunno how i feel about it.

Micheal Koppleman who engineered the recording session for "Tick Tick Bang" said that they couldn't find a CD copy of the Hedrix song "Little Miss Lover", so they had to use a cassette of the "Axis: Bold As Love" album to sample the opening drum track to use as the rhythm loop on "Tick Tick Bang".

Very interesting. I'd never heard that. Both songs kick my ass, but I never put 2 and 2 together. wall

up until 1992 (i think it was after vanilla ice) an artist could liberally use samples, even base whole new compositions on them, without crediting the source. hence prince's (uncredited) use on GB -tick tick bang samples hendrix, release it samples tower of power, love machine samples a james brown scream- and D&P -according to uptown, daddy pop samples aretha's rock steady.
but notice on the symbol album, prince's use of NWA and the headhunters is credited in the liner notes. and emancipation cites its sources as well.geek
