Why hasn't there been any in depth info on this project? Prince and Brownmark worked on this. Yet there seems to be little too no in depth info. why is that?

prince's musical involvement was minimal. maybe that's why we know so little about mazarati.
i remember when that album came out, march 1986. to my ears, it sounded sooo much like the "classic" prince sound i thought he had abandoned on around the world and parade. i waited and waited for a domestic (US) CD release but it never happened.

I remember reading that to cut down on costs 4 the album being made, Prince, Mark and terry worked on it.It was 2 expensive to fly the band back and forth 2 LA. I'm sure a lot of it fell on Mark but I think Prince did more than we think. the 1 show i saw them do(the mtv special) ,they were pretty good.

tv...it was a live broadcast then they re-aired it. they did "100mph"

I'll never 4get what one critic wrote when he described Mazarati's look: "Seven of the sorriest she-males to ever perm a pompadour".

hmmm, some projects are best left forgotten including this, apart from 100mph. the other project that springs to mind is the cd where 'neon telephone' ended up, Jesus i cant even recall the name of the band.

The album is a favourite of mine.

hmmm maybe if attention was shown they may have faired better. instead he may have set them out to fail.

I recall them playing a show in Oakland in the 80's..4 gotton is right...Not sure if they R even the stuff of a VH1's Where R they now, but I'll confess I bought that record back then...

There's a couple gigs plus an aftershow w/ Sheila E. that's circulating among collecters that rocks! On the video they do America,Head & a little bit of Love Bizzare along w/ their own repetoire.She- males..

I love Mazarati! Their debut album is the one of the BEST albums released on Paisley Park Records.Call me crazy,but I prefer it to the overrated Family and Jill Jones albums.Mazarati's album is a strong,focused funk album,and even the ballads are excellent.

Tracks like "100 MPH","Stroke" and "She's Just That Kinda Lady" are superb hard-hitting funk jams.The beautifully arranged "Lonely Girl On Bourbon Street" is a sparkling gem of a ballad,and the slow jam "I Guess It's All Over" just kills me...check out that grinding bass!

The only weak thing about Mazarati were those dreadful outfits

I only managed to get my hands on a couple of singles by them, particularly like the 12 inch of Players Ball, and the beautiful, heartbreaking I Guess Its All Over. Agree with DavidEve, music was quite good, but outfits dreadful.

Now the Family and Jill Jones... I was obsessed with those albums... and I do agree that sometimes when I listen to JJ's album I think it could have used a bit more polish (She has such a beautiful voice and some of the screams are a bit unncessary). But the songs are so awesome... Violet Blue's lyrics are just amazing!

And to me, THe Family's album holds up 17 years later as a consistent project from start to finish. The songs, the voices (St. Paul and Susannah sound amazing), the playing (thanks Prince!), Eric... I think it's one of the best albums--Prince or prince-Protege--of all time.

I've yet to find it on official CD at a reasonable price (i.e. less than $100) but one day I hope to, even though I have it on LP, a CD someone made for me, and MP3 (RIAA: Take Note: this is what true fans do...we buy it ALL on multiple formats!)

sadly,I only have this on cassette,but I like it.I saw them perform in college.They were really freaky looking up close.I like the album,though.It reminded me of another black rock/new wave band I like and have on cassette called Xavion.

y'all gon' make me dust off my cassette..

Anyways, it's easily one of the best early Pasley Park albums. It's got that funk/rock/metal style that Ready For The World wished they mastered.

Gary MF...I am demanding that you take that Mazarati out and listen to it again.To me,it's as funky as any of The Time's albums.I was hooked on this album back in the summer of '86.


nesseone...I agree,"I Guess It's All Over" is the sh**! Kickass slow jam! I love the way "Stawberry Lover" (a great song in it's own right) segues into this track.


With better promotion (and better outfits...lol), perhaps the Mazarati project would have done much better.I think these should have been the singles...

im glad i found this cassette at a pawn shop...cause it was kinda shitty.

er..well it wasnt that bad.but they had way to much of a princely vibe. i dont think that dudes voice suited the breathy prince like vocals to well.

what uptown issue was this? i know the "kiss" story. They had a song on the b side to "100mph", "don't leave me baby" that was lava. Maybe Brownmark will write a book 1 day. If the spin off's had 2 be ranked they would be in a tie w/the family. But u gotta remeber Prince put time into the material 4 them.
