Purple Rain: Best selling dance record ever? Yeah, I think I remember seeing on VH1 or something saying that Purple Rain is the best-selling dance record of all time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. But if that is the case, well then, that's just wonderful. I'd love the record eve more, in fact. It's Prince's best ever!

Is PR really considered a dance album?
And hasn't Thriller sold more copies?

you got a point...can't really dance to the title track or "darling nikki" ('cept for maybe a lapdance)... And hasn't Thriller sold more copies?

It has some songs you can dance to, but it's not a dance record, per se. In terms of dance records, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack moved more units than PR too. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Not in terms of sales it wasn't. He's never come close to PR in terms of sales (16 million) before or since. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

According to some program I saw on VH1, Purple Rain holds the title for the best selling dance record. But I'm pretty sure it's not. Saturday Night Fever more than likely has surpassed Purple Rain in record sales. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
