Are Prince fans too nostalgic?

A recent post asking about Prince's best bass player resulted in an overwhelming response for Brown Mark. I don't think Brown Mark is really a "better" bass player than Larry Graham, Rhonda, or Sonny. However, I do think that nostalgia warps my perspective and opinions.

Think about it. If Prince made an album as original and vibrant as "Sign "O" the Times", how many people here would complain about it? I probably would pick it apart due to my nostalgic feelings of the past. It is like the "Star Wars" films. In some ways the new ones are better than the old ones. However, you are never gonna convince me of that. For me, the original trilogy is always gonna be my favorite. But does that make it the best?

Purple Rain is always gonna be my favorite album. But does that mean it's the best? Am I getting old (Back in my day...)? Are Prince fans too nostalgic?

We might be nostalgic, but lemme tell ya, we're nowhere near as nostalgic as we USED to be. Ah, those were the days...

Prince has dipped into musical nostalgia himself recently, for example with 1+1+1=3 which took the sound straight from the 80s.. good or bad it hardly rated a mention around here.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.
