while watching the show again on video last night it came to my attention that when prince sang "i wanna be your lover" it looked like he was lip synching this part , what do the rest of you think am i right?

No way man, I have watched that show many times and Prince does not lipsynch. This was fantastic and too much was going on in that show.

Most of the time musicians charge a performance fee...so Dick Clark and people like that are cheapo's and don't want to pay up. Most TV stuff falls under that reason.

I've wondered similar things, cuz most songs where he sings in falsetto sound "too good" to be live.

He's famous for overdubbing and cleaning up vocals later so maybe they just "edited" the vocal track before the released video???

I think he just sounded that good back then honestly. And in Mountains he sang all the leads live, but kind of just half way sung along with the Revolution on the chorus. Blasphemy for even suggesting such a thing!

One thing I will say, he sings better now. Especially his falsetto.

Anotherloverholenyohead appears to have only Prince's vocal mic on. Check the Melvoins lipsynching to backup vocals for some proof.
