Who here has seen Prince play at First Avenue? I'm up for interesting stories right now. So share your story with me about your ultimate concert experience. I wish I could've seen Prince at First Ave. Maybe I will someday. You can be as detailed as you like in your explanation too. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I wish...I was a bit too young in the day he was playing the Ave...
One New Years I was there, However, and they kept promising "a very special performance" Later in the nite the screen came up and low and behold...Prince and the NPG performing "New Power Generation" After about 30 seconds of hysterics I realized it was just a lip-sync, impersonators performance...but for those 30 seconds before I came to, it was the best thing ever! It still was very fun, they had the look nailed!

I've seen him play at First Avenue a bunch of times! First time was in 1982, the night after the Controversy tour played the Met Center. He was joined at First Ave by Sue Ann Carwell, Morris Day and others. I saw him at the benefit for the Minnesota Dance Theatre where some of the basic tracks that ended up on Purple Rain were recorded. I saw him at the famous "For Those of You on Valium" show with the Sign O the Times preview. I saw a show where he was promoting the Parade album. Hmmm... I was in the 7th Street Entry (smaller room next to First Ave, capacity about 250) one night just after Purple Rain came out I was watching some rock band and after they played Prince and two band members came in, used the other bands gear and played about a half hour set for the 60 or so of us in attendance! Yup, I've seen him at First Ave at least five or so times. Also he did really just hang there sometimes too so there were a number of times I would be there and just see him and his entourage hanging out.

My wife saw the "Valium" show at First Ave. She asked me to go, but I had to work that night.
I'm an idiot. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Squirrelgrease... What WERE you thinking??? I know. And I was working nights at a stinking, greasy machine shop. Doh! If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yea. I was just very lucky to live here during this time and be in the loop enough to find out about the shows. Actually I was REALLY lucky the first time. I had seen the Prince show at the Met Center but went to First Ave the next night to see the band Defunkt. It was ot til I got there that I got word Prince was doing a surprise show! So Defunkt played early and then Prince! Also I was lucky that I was able to sneak my way into First Ave at that time as I was underage! That first show in 82 I was 17! Nowadys they are way more strict checking ID's and I doubt I could get in! Back those days though I was able to all the time. Another show I saw at First Ave was the Family. I think pretty much their only show pretty much up until the Family Jam eh?
