Don't forget Kiss. wink

Oh yeah :slapsforhead:
Start again, in the UK, there are 5 P songs that even the non-fans know & love:-

Purple Rain
When Doves Cry
Sign O The Times
Kiss
Alphabet Street
Sexy Motherfucker

Oh shit!
6.

Can anyone think of another so we can make it the magic number? Hmmm. What popular song would make it SEVEN?

Raspberry Beret.

Well I've found that most non-fans I know seem to know that one.

u forgot batdance and the most beautiful girl in the world,
these were prince's highest placed chart hits in the uk ever.
tmbgitw - no 1
batdance - no 2

I know but I was listing the songs that even non-fans know and love.

r u serious ???

lovesexy is a masterpiece , it aint just an album it grabs u by the balls (race cars burn rubber in my pants etc) and swings u round makes u think, and u gotta listen again, u gotta love this record !!! got 2 got ! 2 got ! 2 !

positivity = have u had ur + sign 2day ???

There's always been a US/UK divide on this album. In the US it bombed and the tour didn't do very well. Over here in the UK, it was a critical and commercial success with "Alphabet Street" being one of the 4 P songs that even the non-fans know and love (the others being the title tracks from PR & SOTT and When Doves Cry).

It was one of the albums that every cool kid in our school had (along with The Cure 'Standing On A Beach' and The Pixies 'Doolittle').

Funny old world, isn't it?

How did kids in school feel about the naked album cover? That would have got the shit beat out of me at my school. Some retailers in the U.S didn't even carry the album. Prince said in a Rolling Stone interview that Lovesexy was this trip that you either got,or you did not. I got it! Eye No, a upgrade of The Ball, has to be one of the most energized and spirited opening tracks he has ever done. I dont see how anyone could not like Dance On because of the stop/start jazz of the drums alone courtesy of Shelia E. With the prophetic line "M&M killers playing Mickey Mouse games" lol When 2 R Alone sounds more in place here than The Black Album. Nothing on modern radio sounded like Alphabet St. This album is no less quirky or trippy than Around The World In A Day. Positivity is one of Prince's darkest moments in my opinion. There is something very gritty about the track. If Positivity was a track on The Cure's Disentergration, it would have been held as a masterpiece. I Wish You Heaven and Glam Slam may not be for everyone, but to me those are fun pop songs not to be taken to seriously like a Sign of the times. But meant to be more on the level of a Rasberry Beret. Again if Glam Slam was a Beatles song we would never hear the end of it.I wish I was a kid in the UK when this album dropped. I noticed most things I really enjoy are hits over there and not over here. People over here make comments like " anything can sell in the UK". However if you look at most of todays modern hits in the United States, it seems to me that we are the ones that will purchase anything that is marketed to us.

The mind control is deeper here in the states.

Lovesexy is a great album but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. I reserve that for the 1999s, Purple Rains, Parades, TRCs, and Signs of The Times-- albums that were inspired and in which he obviously put a lot of care. On that same note I like Lovesexy, The Truth, Around the World in A Day, Chaos and Disorder, and the Black album just as much. They have their moments as well

Lovesexy quickly went 2 number 1 in New Zealand at the same time as Alphabet St was no 1.
His most succesfull album here 2 date.It was pretty exciting at the time.
Prince at his coolest in the video and the album gave me a sense of comfort .
It was a colourful trip 4 me.

I like it because it sounds like nothing else and was a bold statement by Prince. However, musically half the songs suck, namely Dance On, Eye Know, When 2 R in Love and Positivity.

Lovesexy is alot like Around The World In a Day. A true Prince curve ball. That's why I love both of those albums. They are the underdogs. Never truly appreciated because of the monsters that came before them. It's OK if you don't listen to it much now. Just keep it around. You will go through a time in your life when those songs will speak to you.
