There are 2 wayz 2 look at this. One is that it is an artistic descision, backed by spirituality. (btw, if my spelling sucks, bear with me. I'm tired as hell). If this is the case, then I have no problem with it. In any event Prince is a mature man who is, incredibly, approaching the age of 50. If he was busting out with "motherfuka" this and "bullshite" that, I'd be a little confused. Personally, I think its a path that lets his musical capabilities grow. The downside of course is that songs like Erotic City, Sexy M.F. or Days Of Wild sound a bit strange now. I don't really have a huge problem with it, although some people seem to. The Other possibility is that Prince isn't swearing because Larry said so. Frankly, that sucks an enormous amount of scrote if it is the case. But hey, NEWS didn't have any lyrics and I loved it. I guess, in the end, what matters is the music and what the lyrics are saying. What doesn't matter is if theres a "bitch" or "ass" thrown in here and there. Just my opinion.

Oh pleeease... dont lay the guilt trip on Larry again. Prince is an older man now, giving up the swearing is a sign of maturity. Whats the point of swearing? You might impress a teenager with a nicely put "fuck!", but certainly not a mature listener. Besides, his music doesnt need any cussing. I dont wanna listen to bad words, I wanna listen to hard funk chords.
Sure, his religious motives may have something to do with it (something he chose for himself, Larry didnt choose it for him). But after all its like Malcolm X said: "People swear only when they have nothing else to say." Prince is at the point where he has A LOT to say. You may disagree with his message, but thats what he is about today. Take it or leave it.

I guess the only problem (if there is a problem as a matter of fact) with Prince's cursing is not the fact that he doesn't swear anymore. What might be perceived bothering is that:

- he put aside swearing all of sudden and completely. While I understand that one might not want to use the foul language, it is a bit strange when you make not swearing a virtue that needs to be followed without a fault. There's nothing wrong if you use cussing from time to time - just as a form of expression. Therefore, if Prince now thinks that at his age he should drop swearing, it's ok, just don't make it look like swearing is a form of a sin or at least unwelcome behaviour.

- skipping/changing lyrics of old songs. It springs, naturally, from his stance on swearing (I don't swear because it's wrong). If he approached the issue differently (I don't swear because it's childish, it doesn't suit my age, it's plain silly) then it wouldn't bother him and "Dirty Mind" would be in no danger.

Because of this approach, the entire issue of his not swearing bothers some of us. Ultimately, it's his decision and he'll do whatever pleases him - his life, his right - but at least we have yet another subject for discussion here.

A lot of U orgers just want the Prince of old back and he has evolved as we all do (or should)... On an unrelated note, I'm kinda digging this new Prince myself...The brotha is wearing suits and that's sure is a big improvement over some of that stuff he used to don back in the 80's...WHEW!!! He's off in a fusion type direction on stuff like Xpectation and N.E.W.S....While not essential, it surely rewards upon repeated and CAREFUL listening...Some of you want pop/R&B songs with lyrics and that format restricts LIL MAN and the rest of the NPG, who want to stretch out and explore more on the musicality front on their respective instruments...It's all good to me.
