Gill Scott-Heron

Just wondering, does anyone know if Prince has ever worked with Gill Scott-Heron, or even cited him as an influence?

For those who don't know his work, he is the original poet/rap master, American politics and Black Afro-American Historian, he is the bomb, and his live shows are amazing! You really should check his stuff out. "B" Movie - what a toon!!!

I have known Gill Scott-Heron's music since I was a young child and I am in my early 30's. I am feeling you on that. He not only 'was' a dope lyricist and advocate but still is. He recently made a song (which I cannot think of the title) which dealt with the Military-Industrial Complex which perpetuates war and conflict in order to gain market share and power in the global economy. In fact that is one of his most 'mature' and 'provocative' pieces but it doesn't get any air play. I heard once on our local public radio in ATL and I 'downloaded' it ... (did I say that). I mean a friend let me borrow it. If you like Gill Scott you will love the 'Last Poets'. They are truly the pioneers of that particular genre of art. They were first and Gill Scott learned from them and I know this because my parents went to school with Gill-Scott at Lincoln University and 2 members of the 'Last Poets' lived in our building in NY. Check'm out ... it's hardcore but the message that they were relaying in the late 60's and early 70's is more relevant now then ever.

Peace

Rioub

Unless you count the bit in 'The War' where he says 'The revolution will be colorized', which I guess is a kind of reference.
