Did either of you attend a Lovesexy concert? I suspect the answer is no or this question would not be asked.

Lovesexy live was a story, you have to read the book rather than just look at the words.

Many times what Prince does contradicts what he says.

we got a bit of LRC but not the whole song. Same as Purple Rain was never going to be played again after the D&P Tour when the name Prince was being dropped. Playing or not playing songs really has little or no relevance. Except I suppose when it comes to Lovesexy.

What I see now in contradictions is the message that came with Lovesexy, Batman and Graffiti Bridge and what comes out now. The Rainbow Children is a complete contradiction of Lovesexy. Anna Stesia should not be part of the current crop of songs.

How someone who had it so right can get it so wrong now baffles me. Again, this is just how I see it, what is right and wrong for me.

In '85 he said he'd never tour again- in 2002 he released "One Night Alone"...recording of his "ONe Night Alone" tour in 2002

In '93 he said he'd retire- in 2003 he released N.E.W.S

Another example:
He dissed rap on the black album, 2 years later he has TC Ellis (well if you'd call him a rapper) on Graffiti Bridge.

Haven't listened to the Black Album in 15 years so can't comment.

Well I think we have all learned that when he says saomething, never take it at face value. Maybe when he said he'd never tour again, the Prince he was then will not tour again but prince did. He would retire Prince and prince would continue.

The best thing about following Prince is ya never know and anything and everything (bar Lovesexy) is open to interpretation and debate!

Contradictions? the "Best of prince" cd, the prince Guitar to be released soon!, the Chocolate Invasion coming soon!, Remember "the Last December" cd, the Gold Experience release date: Never!, the "Roadhouse Garden" cd. Can't remember the rest, which is kind of a shame! Course you can count the cds he has released and I guess any great always has many failures or talks shit about all this shit they will do!!! Or is he building mystery and selling suspense.."oh yeah the vault is full" bawhawhawhaw

To sum it up perfectly in the man's own words!! I guess we are all just kicking the flow!!!

Contradiction - my prediction is that
It is really important where I take my naps? (No!)
Or who I sleep with?
People with the real mind will peep this out (Yo, out)
Then there goes your clout
Another fool don't know what she talkin' 'bout
Like the woman who tried 2 approach and attempt 2 roast (What?)
And even boast about how she knew me when (What'd she say?)
Damn, here we go again
U never went 2 school as far as I know
And now U're trying 2 say that U're writing a bio about me? (Oops)
Girl, I hate 2 say this - nigga, please! (Tell 'em)
I go places that U never go
Ask what I'm kickin' (Yo)
I'm kickin' the flow
Rock 2 the F.L.O.W. (Wait a minute) (Minneapolis, Minneapolis)
Just like U're supposed 2 do (Minneapolis, Minneapolis)
Rock 2 the F.L.O.W. (Wait a minute) (Don't kill me please)
(No, no- I ain't, I ain't go'n kill U, man)
Just like U're supposed 2 do (Tony, shoot that piece of shit!)

Just give me the beat and something 2 flow on
And before long I have 'em bobbin' their Jugheads 2 this funky song
Yeah, I'm watchin' people scatter 2 the dance floor
Slammin' and shakin' their booties screamin' "Yo T, gimme more!" (More)
So more is what I give 'em
NPG's rocking the track - yo, tell me how we're livin' (Livin' large T)
Yeah, hah, U damn right, that's how it be (I see)
Gotta keep it that way so that 5-0 can't find me
And I'm sneakin' up the back of the pack of rats
They thought I was asleep, but I'm sayin' it ain't all that (Naw!)
Yeah, not with a 9 fadin' my back
I don't hang with the hat pack (Bang!)
Yo, I'm running silent - solo black
Sleek neat creepin' gang people (Oh)
Rather put a damn fool 2 sleep who pulls a cheap one (Whatcha do?)
That's when I change my speed and flow on
Then I start slipping', skipping' 'n' jumping' around so much
I say bring it on

Rock 2 the F.L.O.W. (Wait a minute) (Minneapolis, Minneapolis)
Just like U're supposed 2 do (Minneapolis, Minneapolis) (2 beat the English)
Rock 2 the F.L.O.W. (Wait a minute) (Minneapolis, Minneapolis) (We gotta feed U?)
Just like U're supposed 2 do (2 beat the English)

(2 beat the English) {x3}
(Ladies and gentlemen) {x2}
Rock 2 the F.L.O.W.
Just like U're supposed 2 do
(Ladies and gentlemen)
Rock 2 the F.L.O.W.
Just like U're supposed 2 do
Rock {x4}

This whole thread just reminded me of so many things...

...Remember when Prince said he was retiring from music to look for "the ladder"? It must have been in the shed, cause he had an album out the next year and toured too.

...Or when he said there would be no promotion for 'Around The World In A Day' and not only was the album promoted but there was a video for the first single.

...I'm still waiting on those re-recorded versions of the Warner-Bros. material...

so why he did that if he didn't like that album?

Because the myth that he didnt want to release it due to spiritual etc convictions was bulllshit as Ive stated before..the material was not strong enough for it to be a lone major release for that time.

ooops

"This is to answer to your posts and to all those others in this
thread: READ UPTOWN.

Damn. TBA was originally some party music for Sheila E's birthday
party. Somewhere along the lines Prince decided to make it his next
album, but without a title or artist and just ship it to specialist
dance shops etc. Much like Paul Mccartney now does under his guise of
The Fireman (or whatever). But then he got cold feet the friday before
when he was in a club, wanting to give the DJ a copy to see the
crowd's reaction to the songs, and saw his reflection in the black
cover. also ingrid Chavez met him that night, sending him a note
saying "why don't you smile more" (I believe). And so he didn't want
this album to be the last thing people would hear in case he died the
next day. (this is a long story cut extremely short - again READ
UPTOWN, and A Documentary, and DMSR coming next february etc...)"
