When Santana did 'Supernatural', I thought about that.
I know Prince is capable of doing it. But at this point, who knows if he even wants it?

Hope not. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

i think you guys are kidding yourselves. prince is never going o be a major player again. and whoever said "who knows if he even wants it?" is just putting up some cushion for the blow. prince wants popular success the way any business man wants it. why do you think he charges so much for merchandise, tickets, etc.? he is trying to make up for not being popular.
no, prince is not gonna blow up in 2004. i will give everyone here 5 dollars each if he does! the most he'll get is some kind of nostalgia throw back. but it won't amount to much.

Prince is a musical genius. He can do it he just has to want to. He seems to me to be on some experimental tip right now just doing what he feels. He ain't trying to make nothin for the radio. If he wanted to make a hit for the masses he could.

I honestly wasn't "putting up some cushion for the blow". If it doesn't happen, it won't be a blow for me, because it's not really that important. I'm just happy getting any music at all from the dude.

Well if you're asking if I think Santana is going to send Prince a bomb disguised as a 2004 calendar, then yes, yes I do. ~ I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR ~

Prince "wanting" to be on the charts again has a lot to do with it. All he needs to do is whore himself to a major label. Look, we know how it works- any one can be a big star. Hell, American Idol shows you how the industry does it. They just take someone with a speck of talent and they turn them to gold. People are on the charts ,not because we want them there, but because the record labels want to sell them to us. "New Power slide...."

no one having heard musicology would think so!
(actually that may ultimately explain why may have given up his idea to release that video...)

(actually that may ultimately explain why may have given up his idea to release that video...) well people who saw it live in ozzie thought it was great. so who knows? and how do you know he aint releasing the video? we'll see i think the very best we could hope for is a platinum album worldwide, ie a million sales in US. 300k in UK. i think that would be a great year for him and see where he goes after that.

It's apparent he doesn't have the interest in becoming hugely popular again. He doesn't even promote himself or his website properly.
His most diehard fans don't know what the hell is coming next (if anything) because he's so mysterious. It's entirely up to him, but personally I don't see him doing much to have his own fanbase embrace him, much less the general public. He's in his own world and does too many self-destructive things to recapture wider attention.

He has turned down numerous requests for his music to be sampled by a lot of the rappers. If he would allow that, I think he would blow up.

There's no reason to think he will blow up 'Santana style.' That was the entire purpose of his guest-driven Rave, and that was an utter critical and commercial bomb. Why would he attempt that again?

Rave a critical bomb? USA Today sure had a nice review. And a commercial bomb by whose standards? Parade/Under the Cherry Moon-also a commercial and critical bomb "New Power slide...."

Parade got to #3 on the charts, and had a number 1 hit (Kiss) that still gets solid radio play, as well as Sometimes it Snows, regarded as one of his best works. Sounds like a commercial hit to me. I also found many glowing reviews online. Rave got to a stratospheric #18 on the charts, and had a moderate hit with Greatest Romance, a song no non-Prince fan could name today even with the lyric sheet in front of them. Among the reviews I found for it was one from RS that ends, "The quality of these few sublime moments outweighs the lackluster album around them."

Parade/Under the Cherry Moon-also a commercial and critical bomb Since the post is comparing Prince to Santana, it's safe to say that Rave was a commercial bomb by Supernatural standards. I believe it was also a commercial bomb by Prince's standards, given his almost immediate disgust of Clive Davis after Rave's release. Also, while Rave may have gotten a glowing review from USA Today, it was Supernatural that received eight Grammy's.

Yeah, It will be a good year for Prince! The only way Prince could go platinum is if he worked with Titty Spears n recorded a song called "fuck me baby one more time"

Its kind of like the supermarket, they only sell us food cause we have to eat, the god damn supermarket! Back in the day when Prince ruled the market was different! All the big hair and flashy clothes. Its the record co., mtv and radio that won't play a true artist like Prince. It would not be that songs like TGRES or Bet U Bye golly were subpar then other songs by other artists. Oh, no. The only reason why the Most Beautiful Girl in the World was such a hit was because it was a great song, and all of radio decided to play it even though there was no sort of payoff. Prince is smart not wanting success, could you imagine him being played on the radio, of no when other artists like U2, Sting are having success cause they are part of the system and people are being tricked into buying U2 albums, it would be a shame if he had success and people bought his albums and listened to them! Prince might have to write some pop songs like those from the 84-87 period and we would much rather have the NEWS cd. I hardely listened to Purple Rain but have gone thru 5 copies of NEWS already! Its all a conspiracy WAKE UP!
