I just came out of a reading a thread where someone said Prince's weakest talent was his singing voice. WHAT?!?
Are you kidding me? And it was also mentioned that his voice isnt pretty. Then comparision were made to other outstanding singers.
I will respect that that is your opinion and you are entitled to say whatever you feel which is what IM about to do!

Okay. Its called having a singing style...and every true singer should have one. There isnt supposed to be a basic way someone sings. Besides having a bravado or using your breathing techniques correctly and warming your voice up before you sing! Everyone is known for something unique in their voice: Marvin Gaye had a smooth yet belting way of singing that could exhilarate and humble you at the same time, Stevie Wonders voice is truly beautiful in ways like his melodies which ceased to amaze a person.

You cant compare singers like these to one another and say who has the better voice because like the true singers they are they have their own style.

And this is what Prince has, his own unique way of singing.
He sounds beautiful when he sings his tender songs like "Sweetbaby", "She gave her angels", "Dinner with Delores" and "Dont Talk To Strangers" and then his passion screams through us when he sings harder in songs like "Darling Nikki" and "Endorphinmachine".

My goodness Prince cannot sing? Surely you jest! Not only can he sing but he makes sure you know he can too!

There isn't a damn thing wrong with the Kids voice. He has a beautiful voice and when I saw him live last year I was again reminded how amazingly beautiful his voice is. The people that say he can't sing, must be Britney fans!!

He has one of the most unique, versatile, and at times unearthly voices I've ever heard.

IMHO he is not blessed with the best voice, but he really knows how to make it sound best (by his layering of background vocals etc.) and yes he's got a unique voice and he puts loads of emotion in it. But of course there are many singers out there who can sing better than Prince

I don't know, I think his voice might be his best "instrument". He isn't always flawless, sometimes he sounds nasal (I hope that's the English term too, you know, singing through your nose, kind of) in lower registers, but still...
It's not just the technical part, it's the emotion, the creativity he puts in it.

Prince is a great singer. He's able 2 evoke emotion like few others I've heard. And when it comes down 2 it thats the important part. Billie Holiday had a vocal range of about an octave, thats all. U gonna say she can't sing?

there's nothing much wrong with his voice, infact i think it's amazing. No studio trickery with this man (apart from Camille).

One small quibble i have with it though, when he sings live, his falsetto when sat at his piano or on ballads is fine.I just don't think it's powerful enough on songs like 'I wanna be your Lover' or 'Kiss' where there's a full band behind him.He seems to get drowned out a bit.

For everyone that says his voice is great some joker on this site will say it is weak. That's the org.

I consider his voice to be a great "pop" voice because he has great range and conveys emotion so well.

His lower registers can be quite nasally like mentioned earlier but his falsetto is absolutely beautiful and amazing.

If you dont rate his falsetto among the best ever in pop music then your ears are most definately painted on. (imho)

He makes it sound effortless. That's a lot of technique most folks don't begin to have.

Prince sounds great in "U Make My Sunshine". His falsetto is an instrument that he uses very well.
