Virtually nobody says Prince isn't a great guitar player, but MANY (me included) scoff at the notion that he is the best or anywhere near the best.

Prince's guitar work is absolutely amazing and is up there with anyone that people have mentioned before on previous threads like this. STOP THE HATE. Prince is a bad MOFO on the guitar.

I don't see anybody 'dissing' his guitar playing. When you say 'dissing', do you mean anyone that doesn't think he's the best player to have ever walked the earth?

If you do, well i guess i'm a 'disser' too. although i really do enjoy what he does alot.

Phil

i think he is an excellent (possibly one of the best rythym guitarists) guitarist, and close to being considered one of the best.

to me, this is because he has the subtlety and expression to bring to the instrument which many others lack.

not because he can churn X amount of notes out or play a particular run.

Bout' Everyone has an opinion on this: Much of what is written about 'the greatest guitarist' is bull. Eddie, Nuno, Santana, even Dave Grohl have all been named greastest guitarist on 199..2000 whatever by publications of some sort. When you sit down and listen to everyone, Steve Vai, Warren De Martini, Joe Perry, Keith Richards etc, you find these guys all can play great, in some style. I was just thinkin: Prince really has the axe in his hands more and more over the years, I love his playing moreso cause he can write songs. I wonder how people would view him if he wasn't behind the axe? Would that be strange! I would not dog his guitar playing, that stood out at the ONA show, one thing is the lyric content these days. Once again we all have some opinion about artists and some of you prolly scoofed at Warren and Nuno but hey I like there playing! I would say, Prince is lost as far as lyrics go, I mean the rainbow children, IMO that was more boring. If he is to go thru a major he will release a ballad: Betcha bye golly why tgres wow! The lyrics are all about love or god! Which where he is at makes sense, still ohh man I love the stuff like the sexual stuff or the stuff like "My Medallion" - the songs that tell a story, much like many of the old b-sides. Then you have the Prince lyrics were the guy is braggin and talking how great he is the "my name is Prince" songs! At this point man, slap it on with something we can relate.. don't be talking "goin goin platinum!" when you ain't goin gold. It would be great to have some Prince fiction lyrics! Some sexual stuff! But layoff the I'm better n u, or the greatest love song ever!, or the God God God. Its all good but overkill! What I'm saying is yeah a song like "Medallion" is groovy cause it has a great beat but a lot of it is the little story it tells!! All those old hits and tours they were time periods, a few other artists are masters at selling an overall Idea, a concept. People IMO are missing those you know years when he would sell us a style and have concepts etc. If he regurgitates religy again and again I'll still be listening just not to the lyrics! And thats all IMO!!! If you made it this far: Don't blame me!!! bawhahawhaw

Prince has the best looking guitar in all of rock and roll. Bar none.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Prince needs a second guitarist to a be good solo-guitarist.
The musical genre he has choosen to play needs a constant guitar riff ...
Problem is that when Prince start to play a solo nowadays, the funk get's lost because the riffs are gone ...
Prince really can't fill in on both at the same time.
God ... how I miss Dez ...

Still ... the "rock" he's trying to play ... just stay with the funk ... there are thousands of better rock-musicians.

It would be really great if Prince for once formed a real funk band, like the JB's or the Parliafunkadelicment Thang:
Two extra guitar-players, two funky drummers and a horn section of at least four!
If he choses to play funk, he should at least have a funk-band...

Yes I know ... most can't stand criticism on the org ...
but I'm an "old-school"? Prince-fan ... and I have the feeling that I have a right to be disappointed by our man
don't make me laugh ... a funk band without a constant guitar-riff
