i also say that Prince 4 some reason attempted alot of mixing genre's i.e in 'Call the law' he mixed rap with rock but no way as good as when Run DMC did 'Walk this way' with AeroSmith

I think Prince is good @ everything but sometimes not 2 great @ any one thing...yeah ...truth hmmm

PRINCE DID TRY AND FAIL MISERABLY WITH HOUSE MUSIC WHEN HE CAME OUT WITH THE SONG 'LOOSE' ON THE GOLD EXPERIENCE-EVEN THE WHOLE 'EXPERIENCE' VIBE WAS STOLEN FROM HENDRIX...

PRINCE SHOULD OF CARRIED ON WITH HIS SWAY 2 HEAVY ROCK/METAL COS BAMBI, ROCK HARD IN A FUNKY PLACE AND PUSSY CONTROL ALL WERE AMAZING :HMM:

SOLO IS HIS ATTEMPT AT EASY LISTENING AND IT SUCKED

PRINCE IS BEST WHEN HE IS PRINCE-A CLASSIC LIKE INTERNATIONAL LOVER, VIKKI AWAITITING OR THE BALLAD OF DOROTHY PARKER SHOW THIS

PRINCE ALSO TRIED HIS HAND AT CALYPSO IN THE SONG 'TRUST' FROM THE BATMAN ALBUM..funny little tune innocent

1. Loose! is not a house song. It's more techno/rock in my opinion. it kicks big booty. booty!

2. Loose! was on the album 'Come'

3.Rockhard and P Control don't sound very heavy metal to me (althought the guitar solo in rockhard is very raw and rocky)

4.From what i remember Solo isn't very easy listening

You bet it is! I seriously wonder what made Prince and the NPG lay that track down. What might have possibly influenced them? "S2TS" by the NPG is probably one of the most curious tracks Prince ever recorded. It's fucking wild, I love it.

And while there isn't really any princely metal released, he surely has put out some serious hard rock - I'm Yours etc.

The Cross is written as a folk tune, and perfomed as one for the first half.

I've never heard of a musical genre called 'Ballet.' New Age, Instrumental perhaps.

Likewise, there is nothing, absolutely nothing country about Right the Wrong. Saying 'hee haw' three minutes in doesn't count. Had Johnny Cash sung it, it would have stood tall as the worst recording of his career.

'A strange way of saying I love you' is two step, a bit like Specials/early Madness.

2-step? Uh, 2-tone was probably what you're implying. And I heave yet to hear a Prince song with a ska sound to it. 2-Step is that British garage/soul/dance thing.

Oh yeah, I haven't heard Prince do hardcore Punk or experimental indie rock.

I'd also like to hear my boy do some Dub/Reggae. You could light up a blunt and just vibe on some bass-heavy grooves. I wish Prince would attempt that.

Sorry, brain wasn't working, but I still think that 'A strange way of saying I love you' sounds like The Specials.

Funny you posted this - I am watching a video tape with a rehearsal performance of Endorphinmachine right now and I've just entered this thread to state this as an example...for hard rock though, I don't really consider this metal. In fact, it's pure AC/DC.

AC/DC?

Yeah. I just realized Endorphinmachine is Prince doin' the AC/DC styleee.

stoned

The version I'm watching right now doesn't really compare to the album version or even the rawer original version...in fact...it's the coolest Prince performance I have ever seen on video tape - music-wise. In fact, it's the first rehearsal I have ever seen on video tape. Fucking cool.

saying 'hee haw' most definitely does make it a country song. I'm sure there's a video locked in the PP vault somewhere with Sonny T, Tommy B, Michael B and Mr Hayes doing a bit of line dancing to it...

Prince rocks!!! headbang

If U didn't know that then where have U been livin' hmm

I dont think that anybody on this site wouldnt give Prince credit for his talents, but you better chill out, dude. There is a whole musical universe outside of the Prince world with many more great artists of equal or even greater talent.

Prince is the most amazing live performer the world has ever known,

Maybe he`s YOUR favorite, or even the only one you have ever seen. I personally find him outstanding, but he surely isnt the "most amazing live performer the world has ever seen". For you to judge that, you have to have seen them all. And I doubt that you did. wink

his voice alone would've made him a legend

Actually his voice is is weakest talent. He CAN sing well, but his voice isnt pretty, and it surely lacks the power of most true soul voices. Did you ever hear Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder or Otis Redding??

but 2 add 2 all that he plays intruments galore, dances like there is no next week and has talents in one man that would usually be attributed to 50.

The man is talented, but there are many talented artists out there qho master an equal amount of instruments.

Maybe his music can't be catergorised but if we had 2 dice it up

How many musical genre's has prince covered-

I count 4

Rock-lets go crazy, bambi etc
RnB-Adore
Reggae-Blue Light
Town and country-Basically the whole of the Prince 79' album
(I'd say opera on 3 chains of gold but that's a blatant Bohemian Rhapsody rip off)

Well maybe a little opera in the title song on 4U :hmm2

The title odf your thread says "Prince has covered EVERY music genre, but then you come up with only four. That should show you that you really do not know music. Prince can be considered a pop musician with major funk influence, and he has superficially experimented with a nice amount of styles, but he did NOT seriously cover any genre outside of Pop, Rock, Funk and Jazz (and in Jazz only Fusion).

What about
Salsa?
Mango?
Hard Bop?
Be Bop?
Swing? (dont tell me that "Strollin" qualifies)
Avantgarde Jazz?
Hip Hop? ("Jughead" doesnt exactly qualify either)
Classical?
Opera?
Folk music (African, Eurasian, German, Spanish Flamenco, etc)?
Techno?
House?
Reggae? (I`m gonna slap you if you say "Blue Light")
Just to name a few that he DIDNT cover...

rolleyes

Prince has tried some of these styles I think:

Drum 'n'bass : Tambourine (he just did it before it was called drum'n'bass)
Flamenco : Fascination maybe, from The Truth
Metal: seriously, listen to stuff like Endorphinmachine live or Let's Go Crazy ,its more than rock, though I'm sure some serious metal fans would never like to admit that Prince can do metal..

But to answer the question ,Prince hasn't covered every music genre no,does he have to anyway?
