FYI: at the Trump Marina show Prince played a techno style version of the War! Kept repeating "there is a war going on here - there is a War going on in my mind" and he was on the keyboards. The song was a repetitive techno jam and Prince basicly spoke about Him Larry and Chaka being seperate from the industry and part of the NPG!
I do know that a firemarshall ordered the speakers to be moved cause they were in front of the fire exit! this delayed the show and caused a cramp in the stage space! a little stupid running the fog machine in that place to begin with and after Chaka fell why they continued to run it i will never know! It looked like Prince would need sandpaper underneath him to stand and he was wearing those highheels! Not on ice little man!!!

I can tell you this: I saw the New Power Soul show in Detroit in 1998. This show was not cancelled but postponed due to his injured ankle. If I remember correctly, this was the last show of the tour. I remember it well because I had to drive 4 hours from Hamilton, Ontario just to find out it was postponed. The Hit'n'Run tour began in November of 2000.

True, it was in Atlantic City that a stagehand had placed a monitor in the wrong place...and when Prince was dancing around w/ the fog all around, he stepped over the mis-positioned monitor and sprained his ankle. He had a sense of humor about it in interviews immediately following (well, at least about firing the person who'd placed it there). He cancelled the L.A. show at the last minute and Concord (the next sched. concert) was also up in the air. I attended that night. An announcer came on at showtime and announced that Prince was in pain but was willing to come on if that's what everyone wanted. He gave everyone a choice: He'd perform and do his best w/ his hurt ankle or cancel and come back when it had healed. Of course, the crowd would rather see him NOW, so he came on. He made comments like, "Limping and all, Im'a still kick your ass tonight!" while he hobbled around w/ his cane. I remember wincing a few times cuz altho' it was obvious he was in pain (minimal movement) he still ran up and down his piano seat a few times, trying to put on a show. Of course, while I think everyone was happy the show went on, it was a disappointing hour-long show. I felt bad since I'd taken a very fine woman to her first Prince concert and was talking shit beforehand, telling her stories about his energy onstage and that she wouldn't be disappointed. DAMN!! (Sorry, Prince) So...yeah, that's what I remember happening. Oct. '98?? If he hurt his ankle, why not just give the fans a refund? Wouldn't dancing with an injury make it harder for him to recover from it?

I hardly ever wear high heels myself. Those things are bad for your feet, ankles and knees. I would still continue buying his music and being a fan, if he would ever opt for comfy shoes. [This message was edited Fri Jan 16 8:38:06 PST 2004 by gyro34]

Have U no compassion? Empathy? It was probably very painful, as ANY foot injury is, plus at THAT specific time, he had to deal with BOTH of his parents illnesses. His dad died SOON after he cancelled the "hit & run tour" I believe, and his mom was not well. Adding 2 this, an injury of his own...if he continued the tour with all of this going on he'd have 2 B superman IMO, and pretty uncaring, which he's NOT. I saw him on that tour at summerest in Wi. and it was a cool show, but he didnt move around alot & he looked quite sad at times. Sometimes ALL U ppl think about is yourselves & how much music this man "owes" U!!! giving NO thought 2 his being human & NOT ur slave! Not Cool! May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love.

The announcer did offer a choice between Prince performing and rescheduling...even though the damn place was already filled w/ people waiting 4 a show. No surrendering our Xpectations that night...

At first it was postponed, then on the rescheduled date, he cancelled 30 minutes before it was supposed to start. I had to go back to where I purchased the tickets and I got all of my money back

I would have preferred that he take care of his injured ankle immediately than come back out to the stage. Why sacrifice his own health like that? Maybe that is why he is not touring and recording at the pace he used to. If that's the case, it is OK with me, beacuse I still love the music he has released (TRC, ONA, ONA dvd, and NEWS) thus far. Oh, he should stop wearing those high heels.

You know you really can't compare your stripping act to the perfomance Prince gives. He's not like you - he can't bend over & pick up dollar bills with his teeth. of course he didn't have to finish the show, but that don't mean cancel the rest of the tour. i guess he ain't used to ANY discomfort these days.
ahhh - so you are a professional dancer & a doctor too. i wouldn't doubt it if he complained that the air conditioning hurt his aura or something. jeez.
Now thats just being snotty. [This message was edited Fri Jan 16 9:36:22 PST 2004 by thedoorkeeper]

IMO, he still does an adequate amount of dancing and workin' his "thang", BUT I think although the foot problem COULD B why he has chilled out, I feel his age and new found sophistication with his new "direction in music" plays a large part. How many elegant jazz/blues musicians do U see doing splits & the latest dance craze? Dont fit!!! When he does his intense jamming, he works it more, but he's matured nicely. Hopefully, MOST of US have as well, or time 2 do some soul searching...I love his shows as they ARE! May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love.
