i have just seen the dvd of "4 those of u on vallium" and it is superb , what a performance from march 1987, the quality of the recording was superb , how did this recording become available? it made the alladin dvd look distinctly average.

That is a classic show. Love that version of Strange Relationship. It's been circulating 4 years in one form or another. Remember there being a vinyl boot of it called 'The Regent of 1st avenue' back in 88.

obviously due to the rules of the board i cannot tell you lot how i obtained the item , but what i will say is that this concert is profesionally filmed and prince definately plays to the camera , so going back to my question how does something like this become available.

Well, Prince is a perfectionist and vain. So, a lot of his shows are filmed purely for his benefit. He keeps the tape, studies his performance. Sometimes tapes go missing or get given to a trusted friend. Sometimes employees get disgruntled and take revenge.

There are even bootleg vids of Prince rehearsals.

Sadly, the source has dried up. Maybe he doesn't record himself anymore, maybe he's tightened security, maybe his realised that people can't keep this things to themselves or maybe all these reasons.

If you've got a lot of live audio boots, you'll have noticed there are a lot of soundboard recordigs. Same reason as above.

In fact, I do like bootlegs and soundboard recrodings are normaly very rare to come across but Prince has loads of soundboard boots.

Pretty much the whole show is excellent, but my personal fave is "Forever in my Life" - great guitar playng with only 5 strings!
I've ripped the audio from the DVD and it's great - BTW, apparently Sabotage are re-releasing a 2 disc "Wonderboy" with "Valium" as the second disc.

Got it, but only watched about 10 minutes of it so far.(Bootleg overload!) The quality is as good if not better than Valium, however the audience noise is low, so you lose some of the atmosphere. Also, even though it is professionally shot, the director must have been a speed freak - too many cuts from camera to camera, and pointless panning. It's definitely worth getting, but I reckon Valium is by far the better show (from what I've seen).

The audience noise is also low on the videos that have circulated for years. Still a GREAT show!

I didn't think the quality was that amazing.

From memory, it wasn't all that much better than my VHS copy (which I threw out a year or two back along with hundreds of other VHS live recordings).

OK, funny story (kinda), I threw out a huge box of Prince live recordings and TV performances on VHS, musta been at least 150 video cassettes.

I come back later that evening to see a group of school kids, about 10-11 years old, dragging this huge box down the street - the box ripped open and out flooded all these video cassettes.

I just walked by casually as they plowed them up in their arms.

I wondered there if I turned those kids into little Prince-freaks lol

I bet they told all their mates, word got around, they got raided by the police & all ended up getting sued by Paisley Park lawyers too.

During their time in youth correctional facilities they all have become crack addicts and adopted a hardened approach to violence. They get out on Friday and return to your neighbourhood.

Armed.

My wife was at the "Valium" show at First Ave.. I had to work that night, so she went with her cousin. I have the VHS and CD of the show, and I should have quit my friggin' job to go that night.
